Do They Not Get The Teabag Joke?

SDC10333I consider myself a very liberal democrat. I am all about what’s best for the kids, and I think that anything we do as a country needs to be for them. I’ve always been a big kid advocate, and that’s where most of my political ideas stem from.

For the first time in history, I cared enough about the political race to register and vote for President. Although it’s pretty much a lost cause in Texas, I still went to the polls and cast my vote for Obama. It was really a proud day for me–I took my daughter and she was adorably patriotic.

That all being said–this health care thing really has me thinking. On the one hand I want what’s best for all kids, but I just hope that it’s what’s best for MY kid. Okay, but none of that is what this post is about. I am just saying that I am not entirely one way or the other on this whole healthcare issue, although my political background says I should be.

I am writing this post because I feel like the republican conservatives need a little advice. It’s about the teabag thing. If you’re easily offended–stop reading right now.

Teabagging is dirty. If you don’t know what teabagging is, then I suggest looking it up. As a matter of fact, I’ll just pause this little blog right here and wait for you to read that definition.

Did you read it? Do you get the joke? Are you embarrassed about it yet? You seriously should be.

Let’s take that guy in the picture up there. He dressed himself as a teabag and walked around town with a sign thinking he was standing for something. And, you know what? He might have a real point… heck his sign might just say something that could convince people to believe what he believes. But, um that dude is dressed as a giant nut sack–everything he stands for immediately overshadowed by this.

So, I am totally cool with your cause. I want you to fight for what you believe in, and I think everyone has that right. That’s what makes the USA so awesome. But come on guys…. get in on the joke!

  1. I totally get what you are saying and absolutely agree. I too have laughed at the tea bag jokes and I even agree with the tea parties.

However, if we always allowed the dirty jokes and such to rule our lives we would never leave the house.

  2. I would have been at the Tea Party if I could have been. I agree with them.

Yes, “teabagging” can have a nasty meaning, but if it is most definitely not the intention of the Tea Parties.

    It’s a historical reference.

    1. The thing is that we get the historical reference, but the idea is being overshadowed by the fact that people are walking around with tea bags hanging form their walkers (my grandfather)

I am not saying they don’t have a point, I am JUST saying that they are opening themselves up to unnecessary ridicule.

  3. Excellent post!
Maybe we should just feel sorry for all of the teabaggers. They have issues. After all, look at their daddy, Glenn Beck.
