Friends Getting Theirs

One thing I love about the writing biz is the karma. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever seen kama in its pure form the way I do in this industry. You help a friend out with a query letter, and yours gets exponentially better. You show someone how to format their manuscript and you get a request. So far, everything I’ve done has been a direct result of something else. To me, that’ cool. It shows me that the hard work and perseverance really does pay off and isn’t just something my grandma told me so I’d pick my toys up off the floor.

Lately, Karma has been in overdrive. Elana Johnson scored an agent, and she’s the query queen. She taught us all how to write a hook that actually HOOKS people. Beth Revis just signed her agency agreement, and she keeps us real every day by reminding us that we’re writing for FUNNY teens. Gwen Hayes just scored a two book deal with the awesomeness that is Egmont, and Kellan Rhodes has good stuff coming at her real soon like.

So, I just want to say congrats to those girls. Because they all kick butt. People say publishing is a lost art, but from where I’m sitting… it’s in full swing. 🙂
