  1. Hi Jamie. I don’t know what to tell you. I have two girls and I know one of these days I’m going to have to do this myself, and I am not looking forward to it. I guess just try the old hold-on-to-the-seat-then-let-go-at-some-point trick?

I hope you don’t mind, but I saw your comment at Janet Reid’s blog and wanted to stop by and say don’t be scared! 🙂 Queries *are* scary, but agents are just regular people, honestly.

You could send your query to Evil Editor; he does funny query critiwues on his blog but the commenters usuall provide pretty sound advice (IMO, anyway.) It’s http://evileditor.blogspot.com
There’s also Miss Snark. She doesn’t blog anymore but the Snarkives are there; she did a query hook contest in December 06, if you want to look it up. I highly recommend spending time reading Miss S; some of the best advice on publishing/writing/life you’ll ever find anywhere. http://misssnark.blogspot.com

You could also join the Absolute Write Water Cooler, which is a very large writer’s forum. Lots of background info on agents, publishers, etc., and there’s a Share Your Work forum there if you want to post your query and get some feedback. It’s http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/

Anyway, I hope it’s okay for me to post this here and I hope the sites help you. But really. I told a friend of mine a while ago that if an agent doesn’t like your query, all they’re going to do is say no. They’re not going to forward it to every other agent and editor in town to laugh at you; they’re not going to show up at your house and throw poop or something. It’s a very scary thing to do, absolutely, but there’s no reason to be scared. If you know what I mean. 🙂

    Good luck!

  2. Ha! I feel your frustration! My daughter (@ 6) has only just started pedaling forward. And I used to belong to a cycling club with 60mile trips. What helped recently was a tagalong bike which helped her with cycling balance. Good luck!

  3. Isn’t it funny how things you think you would know as a parent are not at all intuitive. I still can’t figure out the trick to potty training my son. *sigh* Maybe I’ll be better next time around.
