And School….

Today’s the day…

The day my daughter starts going to school five days a week.

Did I cry? Oh, you bet I did. I want her to be toddling around my house falling on her diapered butt again–only, you know, without all the diapers. But, I won’t bore you with yet another story of a mommy freaking out over her kid growing up.

No more little school, no more sleeping in to get caught up in between the days…

My family is officially on a schedule. This is nuts for me. My husband works from home, and my daughter and I–well we’ve been marching to our own drum for the past five years. Waking up when we want to, going to bed pretty late… just in general having all sorts of fun.

That isn’t to say having a set schedule doesn’t have its merits. Trust me, I know how important routines and such are… we just haven’t had a need for them. She’s a lot like me, and all about the spontaneity. (I like that word a lot more than chaos. It makes me sound so much cooler, don’t you think?)

But now, well–for the mornings at least, we have somewhere to be every single weekday.

It’s funny, I didn’t realize until this morning just how different all my clocks were. It’s not that any of them were wrong, per se, they’re just all set a couple of minutes apart.

I guess I’ll have to fix that… now, if I can just remember how to set them. 🙂

Happy School Beautiful Girl!!

  1. Jamie, your daughter is beautiful. And I love that she has a move called “the cobra”! LOL. That’s awesome.

I am so with you, on every count. If I hadn’t already failed miserably at the homeschool thing – my kids are 4 years apart, and it’s too hard for me to keep them both going in the right direction in terms of educating them – I’d totally do it. I want to keep my little guys here with me all the time! *wipes teary eyes before kids see* And the whole getting-up-early thing, and planning vacations around when they’ll be out of school? Yuck.

But 4 solid hours of writing time every morning – sweet.

  2. Oh my goodness, your daughter is too cute and I absolutely adore her outfit.

Here’s to hoping the schedule ends up working for you!

  3. She is a beautiful girl–love “The Cobra” by the way. I didn’t think I’d be one of those mushy moms until I cried half the year sending my first child off to kindergarten. Then with the second, I didn’t mind at all, and now with the third, I’m ready to toss her on the bus like a football.

Hmmmmmm, what does that say about my maternal instincts?

  4. Aw, I know what you’re feeling right now. It’s bittersweet. And the cliche is totally true–the years when their small really fly by quickly, enjoy every minute!

  5. Your daughter’s adorable.

I work full time so my daughter and I have always been on a schedule. I so enjoy the weeks when I’m off and at home and not on schedule. Enjoy the time when she’s in school to write.

  6. Hello Kitty and the Cobra? She rocks. Happy school days!

    1. @T. Anne, haha even her backpack , her necklace, her water bottle, her lunchbox, AND her socks are Hello Kitty… she was ALL about it for her first day–and I decided to let her go for it, since HK is MUCH cooler than Dora or whatever. 🙂

  7. This is darling and I just went through this myself with my youngest!

    So sad.

Also, you just left me a really awesome comment on the authoress contest and I wanted to say thanks!

      1. @Jamie, its called More Than Simple Science.

I totally got brave and pulled an old MS from under the mattress and I always struggled with this beginning. I have tried several different solutions and I think yours might be the best! Just a little bit of the “before.”

  8. She’s adorable!

My mom used to set all the clocks between 5 and 15 minutes fast. She said it kept her on time. It didn’t. All of mine are a minute or two off.

The waking up early to schedule thing throws me too. Of course I work from home so the benefit is 5 hours of undisturbed work time.

    1. @Shawna, yeah, I love the undisturbed time to work!

I tried that fifteen minutes fast thing, but I ALWAYS end up spending a ridiculous amount of time doing the math to try to figure out what time it ACTUALLY is! 🙂

  9. She’s so cute. Happy school day to her!

I’m trying to prepare myself for next week. My daughter turns four AND starts preschool.

    *CRIES*

    1. @Annie McMahon, that is the beautiful part. Now, if I can just convince my muse to work in the mornings, isntead of –you know at 4am. 🙂

  10. I know the feeling. Both of my boys are now in school every day, and we are all out of the house by 7:30 at the latest. Everyone is now on a routine.
