Writer Friends…

writerfriendsI love Wednesday. That’s my favorite night of the week, because that’s the night I get to be a writer.

I’ve mentioned the Writer’s Workshop before, but I feel like I just can’t convey how very important to me it is. (How very un-writerly of me, right?)

It’s the time where everyone in the room (and there are a lot of everyones there) gets me and what I’m trying to do. It’s the time where I have a glimmer of hope that all this work isn’t for nothing. It’s awesome.

I love that I get to read my stuff out loud, and I think it’s awesome to hear what people think of it. Sometimes it’s even fun to get nervous and anticipate the worst. But, that isn’t the best part… the best part is the cool new friendships with people in the biz.

I can’t say this enough–no matter what you’re doing or what you want your career to be, you need to seek out like-minded people and be around them.

My writer’s group makes me feel like a professional, and that’s a very good thing, because writing is a tough business. It’s nice to have friends that get that–and when you get your good news, sharing it with them just makes it that much better!

  1. I couldn't agree more, Jamie. I feel the same way about my writer friends (both IRL and online). It's so important to surround yourself with people who “get you” and support you, but also who you can support. I think it's the exchange that makes the difference. Great post!

  2. Amen to this post. After all, we can get by with a little (or a lot in my case) help from our friends. 🙂

Big Yellow Chicken? Nope haven't seen any fowl yet.

  3. It's my writer friends who keep me sane and writing.

  5. Ooh, I’d love to be a part of a real live writer’s group! We have loads of virtual writer friends, but all of our real life friends think we’re crazy. Sad, but true.

  6. I have just joined a writers group after belonging to one online for a while. Gotta say, there is a thrill being in the same room with them rather than reading their reactions online.

  7. I love my writer friends. This whole process would be so overwhelming without them. And I LOVE feedback. I think I’m becoming a bit of an addict. 😉 Great post!
