This Terrifying Photo Shows What An Ant’s Face Looks Like Up Close And I’ll Never Be Able To Unsee It

I am terrified right now.

Ants are no big deal, right?

You don’t think twice about squishing a little rogue ant that might be invading your kitchen or taking up space in your bedroom.

But, yo. It turns out, those little bad boys are actually little terrifying monsters straight out of a horror movie.

I’ll never look at ants the same way again!

There is a super cool photo Nikon competition that “showcas[es] the beauty and complexity of life as seen through the light microscope,” and most of the photos are hella gorgeous.

The entries are truly spectacular images — those you might not otherwise even imagine would come from the small things in nature.

Top prize went to a photo of an embryonic hand of a Madagascar giant day gecko. The detail captured in the photo is stunning!

Other winners were equally as amazing — I can’t believe they were able to capture such detailed photos of the complexity of life around us. The life that we totally take for granted on a day-to-day basis.

Like this blood vessel networks in the intestine of an adult mouse.

Or this photo of human neurons derived from neural stem cells.

But, there is one photo that has me internally screaming and wanting to grab my kids and hide.

That photo is an extremely close up picture of the face of — an ant.

According to CNN, Eugenijus Kavaliauskas, a Lithuanian bird photographer, “used reflected light to capture the shocking ant close-up, complete with dark red eyes and what seems to be an angry expression.”

I kinda wish he hadn’t, because I’m never going to be able to unsee that image of pure terror.

It turns out, ants look like something straight out of American Horror Story or an evil monster in the Game Of Thrones Prequel: House Of The Dragon.

One thing’s for sure. I’m about to have nightmares for days over this photo of a little ol’ ant.
