That cover is so cool! Makes me want to read it right now, and I'm not even a huge fan of YA.

They've kind of moved me into the middle grade novelist category because my YA books are light and sunny and cheery...apparently YA books aren't like that anymore. Who knew? I think books like the one you reviewed are refreshing...and you'd think teens would want to read more of that sort of thing but I keep picking up these YA books about cancer and death and pregnancy and such.

Okay...I'll have to check it out. After the last two I read I need a pick me up. I LOVED Shiver (Maggie Stiefvater) so I bought Lament and Ballad--which she wrote a long time ago. Depressing as hell. Did not enjoy them. The stories were great, until the end~then crash and burn. Just my opinion of course, I still love her writing. I need a book to cheer me up though!

In reply to <a href="https://totallythebomb.com/books-rock-hex-hall/#comment-4797">Callie Forester</a>.

@Callie Forester, you should skip all the other books in your list and just push this one up to the top.

I know what you mean, but sometimes the BEST thing you can do for your story is to back off and read some other really great ones. When you come back, your book will be even better!

That sounds like an awesome book...right up my alley. Sigh. One more book to add to the list of ones i want to read.

I know I'm supposed to read a lot but I always feel guilty if I'm reading--like I should be working on my own book instead of reading someone else's. Do you ever go through that, or do you just look at reading other people's stuff as part of the learning process?
