Lowe’s giant poseable Elf on the Shelf is 58 inches tall and $149. Here’s what it does, what it doesn’t, and the photo that makes it a little scary.

Lowe’s is selling a giant Elf on the Shelf, and apparently the tiny one was not doing enough staring.

This version is listed as a 5-foot poseable elf. Same red suit. Same white collar. Same little face. A much bigger situation to encounter on the way to the kitchen.

Photo: Lowe’s. The listed height is 58 inches.

How big is the giant Elf on the Shelf?

The blue-eyed boy elf at Lowe’s measures 58 inches tall according to the specifications. The listing rounds that up to 5 feet; the overview describes it as 4.8 feet. Either way, we have moved well beyond a little doll tucked between the books.

His arms and legs are flexible, so you can arrange him in different poses. Lowe’s official photos show him sitting on a mantel, hanging his legs over an edge and peeking through a window. That last one is a choice.

He is $149, and he does not move on his own

Lowe’s displayed a $149 price when checked on October 10, 2026. Check the product page with your location selected for the current price, shipping and pickup options.

The specifications list no power source, no lights and no music. This is a poseable decoration, rather than an animatronic that gets up and walks around. You supply the suspicious new location.

The exact one pictured is item 1246384, model 93148, the blue-eyed boy version. That helps if your search turns up the smaller Scout Elf dolls or a different giant elf.

Photo: Lowe’s. The window pose is shown in the retailer’s product gallery.

The window photo is doing a lot

A little elf hiding in a cereal box is cute. A nearly five-foot elf looking in through the window has an entirely different energy.

If your Christmas decorating style includes a little harmless jump scare, this is a very committed way to get there. I would absolutely forget I put him somewhere and then have a problem with my own decorating decisions.

For the regular-size elf, we have easy Elf on the Shelf ideas and the official arrival and departure dates. And if the whole watching-you situation has always felt a little weird, I have thoughts about that, too.

I Got a Soul Aura Reading and Found Out I’m Lime. Here’s What That Means

Helen Ye Plehn gave me a Soul Aura reading and my personalized color came back Lime. Here’s what Lime means in The Aura Color Wheel system.

Disclosure: This aura session was offered to me as a media experience. Nobody reviewed or approved this story before publication.

I had a Soul Aura reading with Helen Ye Plehn, creator of The Aura Color Wheel, and apparently I am Lime.

Not green. Not yellow. Lime.

And the personalized report Helen sent me afterward was 26 pages long, so this was considerably more involved than someone looking at me and saying, “Yep. Lime vibes.”

What is a Soul Aura Color reading?

The Aura Color Wheel is Helen’s spiritual self-discovery framework. In her system, a Soul Aura Color is meant to describe a combination of natural gifts, a deeper area of healing, and lessons a person may be working through.

It is important to say that this is a spiritual framework, not a scientific personality test or medical assessment. I treated it the same way I treat tarot, symbolism, and other spiritual tools: as something interesting to explore and reflect on.

And I genuinely loved the experience.

So what does a Lime Soul Aura mean?

In Helen’s framework, Lime combines Yellow and Blue energy. She connects Yellow with things like personal power, action, confidence, and leadership, while Blue centers communication, ideas, expression, and influence.

Together, my report labels that combination the “Entrepreneur” archetype.

The overall theme was basically: you can see possibilities, communicate the vision, and get things moving — but the vision needs a real place to land.

That grounding piece shows up as Red in my report, which Helen frames around safety, belonging, home, roots, the body, and the physical structures that support a life.

The weirdly specific part of my Lime reading

My report did not tell me I needed more ideas.

Quite the opposite.

It kept coming back to the idea that imagination and possibility are already there; the work is giving the ideas roots, choosing what deserves energy, and building enough structure for a vision to become real.

It also gave me three additional “lesson” areas: Orange for emotional freedom and creativity, Green for compassion, and Violet for intuition.

So the Lime version of spiritual homework, apparently, is not “dream bigger.” It is closer to: create, ground it, be nicer to yourself, and make sure the exciting idea is actually the right idea.

What was in the personalized report?

The report covered work, money, relationships, wellness, soul connections, creativity, intuition, grounding, and a 30-day alignment plan.

There were reflection prompts and practical suggestions alongside the spiritual language. One recurring idea was choosing one important idea and taking a concrete step toward it instead of scattering energy across every possible direction.

Again, I am not treating a color reading as an objective verdict on who I am. But as a reflection tool? There was a lot in it to chew on.

Who is Helen Ye Plehn?

Helen Ye Plehn is the creator of The Aura Color Wheel, founder of Helen Creates Beauty, and author of The Aura Color Wheel from Hay House. She also describes her work as combining aura reading, art, Feng Shui, meditation, and other spiritual practices.

The session itself was warm and easy, and Helen later sent me the full personalized Lime reading as a gift.

Would I do a Soul Aura reading again?

Absolutely. I had a great time with this.

Part of what made it fun was that it gave us a language for talking about personality, creativity, ambition, intuition, and the parts of life that need more attention without pretending a color is fate.

Want to find out your Soul Aura Color?

Curious which color you’ll get? You can take Helen’s Free Soul Aura Color Quiz here. Treat it as a little spiritual self-reflection, not a scientific personality assessment.

If you want to explore Helen’s system, you can learn more through The Aura Color Wheel and Helen Creates Beauty.

I Got a Psychic Reading From Allison Carmany. She Clocked Me Almost Immediately

I told Allison Carmany almost nothing, and she immediately picked up on the career-first, absolutely-not-dating chapter of my life. Here’s what the reading was actually like.

Disclosure: This reading was offered to me as a media experience. Nobody reviewed or approved this story before publication.

I went into a psychic reading with Allison Carmany expecting to spend a little time getting a feel for what she does and then ask a few questions for Totally The Bomb.

We ended up talking for about an hour.

And here is the part that made the whole thing especially interesting to me: I told her basically nothing.

I read psychically too. I run @elementually on TikTok, where I have an audience of about two million followers, and Allison did not know that about me going into the reading.

In my experience, being read by another psychic can get weird if you start mentally jumping into the reading yourself — reading them back, anticipating where they are going, or trying to help the thing along.

So I tried very hard to stay out of it.

I listened. I answered what I needed to answer. And mostly, I let her work.

She clocked the season of life I am in almost immediately

The thing that got me was how quickly Allison picked up on the fact that I am in a very specific chapter right now.

I am focused on my career. I am focused on my life. I am focused on getting my shit together.

And I am not in a season where I need to be in a relationship.

That sounds simple when I write it down, but it was wild to hear it reflected back to me so quickly when I had not sat there explaining my dating life, my priorities, or the giant internal shift I have been making.

She just went there.

And I was kind of obsessed with it.

Whether someone chooses to call that psychic ability, intuition, pattern recognition, or something else is obviously going to depend on what they believe. I can only tell you what it felt like from my side of the call: she landed on something extremely specific to where I am right now without me feeding her the story first.

And she was incredibly kind about what she saw

The other thing I loved was that the reading was not just, “Here is what I see. Good luck with that.”

Allison was kind.

She offered actual steps that could help me work with what was coming up. She gave me ways to think about the things she was seeing instead of making the reading feel dramatic or fatalistic.

That made the whole experience feel enlightening instead of overwhelming.

I did not leave feeling like some mysterious future had been handed to me. I left feeling like I had spent an hour with someone who saw where I was, understood the chapter I was in, and gave me useful ways to move through it.

Who is Allison Carmany?

Allison describes herself as a psychic medium and spiritual teacher. Her work includes private readings, mediumship development, live events, Soulful Evolution, and AstroReport.

What I liked immediately was that the conversation did not feel stiff or performative. It felt like an actual conversation with a person who happened to be doing a psychic reading at the same time.

Then she emailed me after the reading because something else came to her

After we got off the call, Allison emailed me because another thought had come to her: Walt Disney.

She remembered how much I love Disney and connected it to the idea of Imagineering — not just imagining something, but actually figuring out how to build the thing you imagined.

Her spiritual interpretation of that was basically grounded manifestation: the vision matters, but so do action, skill, persistence, and getting help from other people.

That follow-up was such a good example of what I liked about the whole conversation. It felt thoughtful and personal even after the scheduled reading had ended.

What does a psychic reading actually feel like?

If you have never had one, this was the biggest takeaway for me: it did not feel like sitting across from someone dramatically predicting my future.

It felt much more conversational. There were impressions, questions, personal themes, and moments where the discussion went somewhere I was not expecting.

And because I already understand psychic work from the other side, I was especially interested in what would happen if I did not try to steer anything.

I wanted to see what Allison would pick up when I stayed as quiet and open as I could.

That is what made her immediate read on my career-first, absolutely-not-looking-for-a-relationship phase land so hard for me.

Would I do another reading with Allison?

Absolutely.

In fact, I liked her so much that by the end of our conversation we were already talking about ways she might contribute to Totally The Bomb — and it made me start thinking differently about Elementually, too.

That is probably the most useful review I can give you.

I went in planning to cover a psychic reading.

I came out wanting to find a way to work with the psychic.

A quick reality check

A personal psychic reading is a spiritual experience, not scientific proof of psychic ability. I am not presenting anything that happened in my session as a medical, financial, legal, or factual prediction you should use to make a major life decision.

I am telling you what the experience was like for me.

And for me? It was kind, illuminating, surprisingly specific, and one of those conversations I was genuinely happy I said yes to.

You can learn more about Allison, her private sessions, and her other work on her official site.

How to Ask for Fresh, Hot Fries at McDonald’s

Ask for a fresh batch of McDonald’s fries and offer to wait. Here’s what the viral tip means, why no salt is a separate request and what isn’t guaranteed.

If you want fresh McDonald’s fries, the simplest move is to ask whether the restaurant can make a fresh batch and say you’re happy to wait.

You don’t need to memorize a secret-menu password. You do need to leave room for the answer to depend on the restaurant and what’s happening in its kitchen.

What to say when you order

Try: “Could I please get fries from a fresh batch? I’m happy to wait.”

That makes the request clear. It’s a request, not a guarantee that every location will cook your order separately.

Where the fresh-fries tip came from

Our original story covered @laurenicc’s 2021 TikTok about asking for made-to-order fries. People have been sharing versions of this tip for years.

Teen Vogue’s 2017 reporting also described employee suggestions to ask for a fresh batch. Those anecdotes aren’t a nationwide McDonald’s service policy.

What about ordering fries without salt?

The same reporting discussed the no-salt trick, but also explained the extra work involved in keeping an order unsalted. If fresh fries are what you want, ask for that directly.

Request no salt if you want no salt. Don’t treat it as a universal freshness guarantee.

Can you demand that anything on the menu be made fresh?

Our older article repeated a Reddit claim that employees “have to oblige.” We haven’t established that as an official company policy, so it shouldn’t be presented as one.

Ask politely and find out what the restaurant can accommodate. There is a big difference between a useful ordering suggestion and promising hot fries every single time.

While you’re planning the rest of your order, here’s McDonald’s explanation for its fountain Coke. And if your question is about ingredients, see whether McDonald’s fries are vegan where you’re ordering.

Ghost vs. Spirit: Is There Actually a Difference?

Ghost and spirit can mean the same thing, but spirit is the broader word. Here’s the difference without the paranormal vocabulary lesson.

A ghost usually means the spirit of someone who has died. Spirit is a broader word, and it can also mean a ghost.

So if you’ve heard someone describe the same spooky visitor as a ghost one minute and a spirit the next, you haven’t missed an important chapter. The words overlap.

We do not need a paranormal flowchart to get through this. Promise.

Think of “spirit” as the bigger basket

Imagine a basket labeled “spirit.” A ghost can go in that basket, but the basket holds other meanings, too.

The American Heritage Dictionary’s definition of ghost describes a dead person’s spirit believed to appear to living people. Its definition of spirit includes a soul and supernatural beings, along with plenty of everyday meanings.

That last part matters. School spirit is enthusiasm for your school. It does not mean a deceased principal is floating around the gym.

Here’s a pretend ghost story

Say a character in a story sees a mysterious woman standing at the top of the stairs. The character believes she is someone who died long ago.

Calling her a ghost fits that meaning. Calling her a spirit can fit, too.

Changing the word does not tell us whether she’s friendly, whether she belongs in that house, or whether the character really saw what they think they saw. Those are separate questions.

Does “ghost” mean bad and “spirit” mean good?

No. The words alone do not give you that answer.

The dictionary meanings do not divide them neatly into a scary team and a nice team. A story or a particular belief system might draw that distinction, but you would need to know its rules first.

The same goes for any explanation that says one has moved on and the other has stayed behind. Treat that as a belief to ask about, rather than something the word itself guarantees.

The useful question to ask

If someone makes a sharp distinction between the two, ask: “What do you mean by spirit here?”

That gets you farther than arguing over a label. You may be talking about the same idea while using different words.

For everyday reading: ghost is the more specific word; spirit has more possible meanings. Neither label, by itself, is evidence that a supernatural visitor is there.

A personalized elf character message can make a cute Christmas surprise. Here are current app options, purchase details and a simple parent setup checklist.

An elf phone call is a cute way to add a little Christmas surprise without coming up with another elaborate scene on the kitchen counter.

Photos: The Elf on the Shelf

Wondercall currently lists elf character calls for iPhone and Android. These are personalized character messages, so check the available message, purchase details and delivery options in the app before promising your child a call.

Where can you find an elf call?

The developer’s iPhone listing for Wondercall includes Santa and elf characters and says messages can be personalized with details such as a child’s name and age.

The Android listing describes scripted, prerecorded character experiences and scheduling options. Think of it as a character message rather than a live conversation with someone at the North Pole.

Is the elf call free?

A free download does not automatically mean a free call. The iPhone listing marks Wondercall as free with in-app purchases, and the Android listing also includes in-app purchases.

Check what the selected call costs before you buy. Do not assume an old “one free call” offer or a price from a previous Christmas still applies.

How to plan the surprise

Let a parent handle the setup. Read the current listing and privacy information before entering your child’s details.

Choose the character and occasion. Look for the elf message you want, then follow the app’s current personalization steps.

Check the message and purchase screen. Use a preview if one is offered, and make sure you understand the cost and how the message will arrive.

Keep your phone ready. Plan it for a time when your child can listen. If the service sends an incoming call, check whether your phone might silence it.

Pair it with a simple elf scene. A note beside your elf saying “Listen for a Christmas surprise” is enough.

What about Christmas Dialer?

Our original 2020 story featured Christmas Dialer. Its old free-call offer, extra-call price and message choices should not be treated as current terms. Use a service with a current listing and a clear purchase screen when planning this year’s surprise.

And if the phone-call setup starts feeling like another chore, skip it. These easy Elf on the Shelf ideas include a sock sleeping bag, a toy parade and a book-club scene that do not require an app.

Scout Elf Return Week is November 24–December 1, and most elves head home on Christmas Eve. Your family's arrival day can still fit your own schedule.

Elf on the Shelf usually arrives during Scout Elf Return Week, November 24 through December 1, and leaves on Christmas Eve, December 24. That is the official tradition. Your family can still choose an arrival day that works for you.

Photos: The Elf on the Shelf

So if you are staring at the calendar and wondering whether this tiny houseguest needs to appear right after Thanksgiving or on December 1, there is room to breathe. The elf does not need to turn your holiday schedule into a second job.

When does Elf on the Shelf arrive?

The brand’s Scout Elf Return Week runs from November 24 through December 1. It is the usual window for welcoming an elf back or introducing a new one.

For 2026, that window is still November 24–December 1. December 1 makes a tidy starting point if you want your elf routine to line up with an Advent calendar.

The official arrival guidance also makes room for an elf to arrive later and fit your family’s holiday schedule. A later start does not mean you have missed the tradition.

What if the elf is late?

Pick the day that suits your family. If your child expects a story, a little note saying the elf had extra work at the North Pole can handle the explanation.

You do not need to turn a late arrival into a punishment or invent a week of elaborate scenes to catch up.

Three easy ways to welcome the elf

A gift-box arrival: Sit the elf in an empty box with the lid open and a small hello note.

A breakfast appearance: Put the elf beside breakfast with a paper place card. Your usual breakfast is enough.

A book delivery: Set the elf beside a Christmas story you already own so you can read it together.

For the rest of the visit, save these 30 easy and low-cost Elf on the Shelf ideas. The official site also shares arrival-photo inspiration.

When does Elf on the Shelf leave?

Most Scout Elves leave on December 24, Christmas Eve. The brand’s departure guide describes them heading back to the North Pole following Santa’s sleigh.

That makes Christmas Eve a natural day for the last scene and a goodbye note, with the elf packed away before Christmas morning.

Can the elf stay through Christmas Day?

The official departure guide allows for special-permission exceptions, including a delayed arrival or a request to watch the family open presents. If that is your family’s tradition, you do not need to panic about getting the day wrong.

A goodbye that does not require another shopping trip

Set a toy bag or folded-paper suitcase beside the elf and leave a short farewell: “Thank you for a lovely Christmas. See you next year!”

A goodbye gift is optional. The note and the tiny suitcase already tell the story.

A poltergeist is the name for a ghost blamed for unexplained knocking and other disturbances. Here’s what the word means—and what a strange noise doesn’t tell you.

A poltergeist is a ghost that people blame for unexplained noises, especially knocking. That’s the basic idea behind the word.

It sounds like a term that needs a whole ghost-hunting starter kit to understand. It doesn’t. Think “noisy ghost,” and you have a place to start.

What does “poltergeist” mean?

The American Heritage Dictionary’s definition describes a ghost associated with noises, knocking, and disorder.

The word comes from German: poltern means to make noises, and Geist means ghost. That makes the name easier to remember.

In other words, the name describes what the supposed ghost is doing. It is making itself heard.

A simple example

Imagine a made-up story about a family hearing three knocks from an empty room every night.

They cannot figure out where the sound is coming from, so someone says, “Maybe it’s a poltergeist.”

The knocking is the thing the family reports. A poltergeist is their proposed explanation. Those are two different pieces of the story.

You can understand the term without accepting the explanation.

Is a poltergeist different from a ghost?

In this definition, a poltergeist is a kind of ghost. The name puts the attention on the noise and disturbance.

Here’s an easy way to read a spooky story: if the mystery centers on repeated knocking, “poltergeist” tells you what sort of ghost the storyteller has in mind.

It does not tell you who the ghost supposedly was, why it’s there, or whether the story is true.

Does an unexplained noise mean you have one?

No. Hearing a noise does not establish what caused it.

“I don’t know what that was” is a perfectly reasonable answer. It is also a different answer from “a ghost did it.”

If a sound in your house worries you, start by looking for its ordinary source. Notice where it happens, when it happens, and what else is going on at the time. That gives you something useful to investigate.

Calling it a poltergeist gives the mystery a spooky name. It does not solve the mystery.

And yes, “noisy ghost” is much easier to remember than a word that looks like it should come with pronunciation homework.

Doll sleepovers, paper crowns, pretend spas and other elf setups you can make with toys and craft supplies already at home.

If your kid’s favorite toys are dolls, dress-up clothes and a basket of craft supplies, you already have plenty to work with for Elf on the Shelf.

Photos: The Elf on the Shelf

These 25 ideas turn those favorites into little Christmas scenes. Use whichever ones your child likes; the elf does not care who the toys belong to.

Keep the setup simple

Start with doll accessories, clean socks, scrap paper, crayons and short pieces of ribbon. For a pretend salon, use paper props rather than real makeup or nail polish. The scene should be fun to find and easy to put away.

The official Elf site has an arrival-ideas collection that includes a mermaid scene and a hidden-message craft. The ideas below give you more ways to build a doll-and-craft theme without buying an entire prop collection.

25 doll, craft and dress-up elf ideas

1. A doll sleepover

Make beds from clean socks or folded washcloths. Sit your elf beside the dolls, with a paper pillow for each guest.

2. A pretend nail salon

Draw nail polish bottles on paper and set them beside your elf. Skip painting the actual doll or leaving open cosmetics.

3. A ribbon skirt

Tie a short scrap of ribbon loosely around the elf’s waist. Keep it easy to remove so the outfit is ready for the next scene.

4. A mermaid lagoon

Line an empty bowl with blue tissue paper and sit your elf above the pretend water. Add toy fish if you have them.

5. A bracelet boutique

Arrange a couple of bracelets on a small tray. Let the elf be the shopkeeper, with dolls lined up as customers.

6. A bow collection gone wild

Put a few hair bows around your elf on a table. One enormous bow is often enough to make the joke.

7. A doll tea party

Set out toy cups for the elf and dolls. Use paper treats instead of actual drinks that might spill.

8. A paper crown fitting

Cut a crown from scrap paper and fit it around the elf’s hat. Put the scissors away afterward.

9. A tiny fashion show

Lay out a few doll outfits and make a paper runway. Seat your elf at one end as the very serious judge.

10. A sticker masterpiece

Stick a few stickers to a sheet of paper and prop it beside the elf. Keep the stickers on the paper instead of the furniture.

11. A book-club meeting

Open a picture book with a favorite character and gather dolls around it. Your elf can sit in the middle as the reader.

12. A paper snowflake studio

Leave a finished snowflake and folded paper beside your elf. This can become a craft to do together in the morning.

13. A hairbrush microphone

Stand a toy hairbrush beside the elf like a microphone. Give the dolls front-row seats for the concert.

14. A toy-camera photo booth

Make a backdrop from wrapping-paper scraps and put a toy camera nearby. Use props you already have rather than buying a kit.

15. A washcloth spa day

Wrap your elf in a dry washcloth and set them in an empty bowl. A folded scrap of paper makes a tiny magazine.

16. A dance party

Put your elf and dolls in a circle beside a speaker that is switched off. Leave a note naming a song to play in the morning.

17. A craft-basket expedition

Sit the elf beside yarn, paper and a finished drawing. Keep needles, glue and sharp tools put away.

18. A dollhouse visit

Place your elf beside the dollhouse door or at the toy dining table. No dollhouse? Build a room from an open cardboard box.

19. A dress-up accessory swap

Give the elf a doll scarf or hat that fits loosely. Let a doll borrow a paper elf hat in return.

20. A friendship-card delivery

Fold a small card and draw a heart inside. Your elf can leave it beside a toy friend.

21. A soft-toy picnic

Spread a small cloth on the floor and add toy plates. Invite the stuffed animals along; no food required.

22. A drawing challenge

Leave a pencil and a note asking the kids to draw the elf. Put a blank page nearby so it is ready to go.

23. A pretend cupcake shop

Make cupcakes from crumpled paper tucked into liners. Arrange them on a toy plate beside the elf.

24. A ribbon gift-wrapping desk

Put your elf beside a tiny empty box and short ribbon scraps. Keep tape and scissors out of the scene once you finish.

25. A Christmas-tree decorating team

Put the elf and a doll beside a small paper tree with stickers. The kids can help finish it after breakfast.

Choose the scene your kid will recognize

A favorite doll at a tiny tea party can be more fun than a complicated setup made with toys your child never uses. Start with the favorites, repeat the good ones, and keep a sock sleeping bag handy for the tired nights.

However, my Great Dane is taller than most full-grown miniature donkeys so they still stay pretty small compared to regular-sized Donkeys.

Loudmouth Photography

Are dwarf donkeys the same as miniature donkeys?

The little donkeys discussed here are miniature donkeys. “Dwarf donkeys” is the nickname used in this story; Smithsonian’s National Zoo calls them miniature donkeys and describes their small size as natural.

Adult miniature donkeys measure no more than 36 inches at the withers, measured from the highest point of the shoulders to the ground—not to the tips of those ears! Smithsonian lists their weight at 200 to 450 pounds. The baby photos are adorable, but they are not a promise that a donkey stays baby-sized.

If you’re thinking about adding one of these adorable miniature Donkeys to your family, I do have to prepare you for the braying!

Donkeys communicate by braying, and the volume varies from donkey to donkey. Some can be very loud, according to Smithsonian. That is something to consider before bringing one home, especially if your neighbors are close.

What do miniature donkeys need as pets?

Miniature donkeys need companionship, outdoor space, shelter and ongoing care. Cute? Absolutely. A tiny pet you can tuck into your living room? That is a very different plan.

Donkeys are herd animals that do poorly in isolation. The Miniature Mediterranean Donkey Association says they should always have a companion and that goats, sheep and ponies are not suitable substitutes. Plan for donkey companionship before bringing one home.

That association also calls for shelter from bad weather, fresh water, regular hoof care and dental checks. Have an equine veterinarian help you plan feeding and preventive care.

And this is a commitment measured in decades: Smithsonian says donkeys can live well into their 30s with proper lifelong care. Those sweet faces deserve a home ready for the grown-up donkey, too.

What Can Parents See on Snapchat Family Center? Here’s Exactly What It Shows

Snapchat Family Center can show parents friends, recent contacts, time spent and safety settings — but not private conversation content. Here’s exactly what parents can see.

If your teen uses Snapchat and you have ever wondered, Wait, what can I actually see if we turn on Family Center?, the answer is more useful than “nothing” — and a whole lot less invasive than reading their messages.

Snapchat’s Family Center gives parents and caregivers a dashboard for seeing who their teen is connected to, who they have been talking with, how they are spending time in the app, and some important safety settings.

Here is the part that matters most: Family Center does not show you the content of your teen’s private conversations.

So this is not a secret-message-reader. It is more like a “tell me enough that I know what questions to ask” tool.

What parents can see in Snapchat Family Center

Snapchat currently says Family Center can show parents:

Your teen’s friends list, including existing and newer friends.

How your teen may know a friend, using signals such as mutual friends, saved contacts or shared communities when Snapchat has that context.

Who your teen has been chatting with recently — but not what was said.

How much time your teen spends on Snapchat on average each day over the previous week.

Where that time goes, including Chat and Snaps, Camera, Snap Map, Spotlight and Stories.

Location-sharing tools, including the ability to request your teen’s location and share yours in return.

Privacy and safety settings you can review together.

Parents can also use Family Center to help report a concerning account, set certain content restrictions and manage some teen-safety controls.

No, Family Center does not let you read their private messages

This is probably the biggest misconception.

Snapchat says Family Center was designed to give parents visibility without showing the content of private conversations.

You can see who your teen has been communicating with recently. You cannot open the conversation and read the Snaps or Chats.

And honestly, that distinction makes the tool a lot easier to talk about with a teenager. “I want to know who is around you online” is a very different conversation from “I want to secretly read everything you say.”

The time-spent breakdown got much more useful in 2026

Snapchat expanded Family Center on January 22, 2026, with more detailed usage information. We covered the original Family Center launch in 2022; this guide explains what parents can see now.

Parents can now see the average amount of time their teen spent in Snapchat each day over the previous week, plus a breakdown of the features getting that time.

So instead of simply seeing “two hours on Snapchat,” you may be able to tell whether that time was mostly spent chatting with friends, creating with the camera, looking around Snap Map, or watching Spotlight and Stories.

That does not automatically tell you whether two hours is “good” or “bad.” It does give you a much better starting point than guessing.

You can also see more about new friends

The 2026 Family Center update also added more context around a teen’s connections.

Parents can see existing and new friends and, when Snapchat has the information, clues about how the teen may know that person.

That can include things like mutual friends, contacts or a shared community.

This might be the feature I would actually look at first. A person your teen knows from school is a very different situation from a completely unexplained account that appeared yesterday.

What about Snap Map and location?

Snapchat says location sharing is off by default.

If someone turns it on, their location can only be shared with accepted Snapchat friends, and users can choose which friends receive it.

Family Center gives families tools to request and share location, which is worth reviewing together rather than assuming you know what is turned on.

If you have not looked at your teen’s Snap Map settings recently, this is one of those five-minute checks that is probably worth doing.

How do you set up Snapchat Family Center?

You need your own Snapchat account, and you and your teen need to be Snapchat friends.

Inside Snapchat, search for “Family Center” or open it from Settings. The parent sends an invitation, and the teen has to accept it before the Family Center connection is active.

So no, you cannot quietly attach Family Center to your teen’s account without them knowing.

What I would use Family Center for

I would not treat this like a daily inspection report.

I would use it when something changes.

A bunch of new friends suddenly appear? Ask about it. An unfamiliar account keeps showing up in recent contacts? Ask who it is. Your teen is spending way more time in Spotlight than they realized? That is something you can actually talk about.

The point is not to become better at Snapchat than your kid. Please do not give yourself that assignment.

The point is to have enough information that, when something looks weird, you know where to start the conversation.

For the bigger picture — Snap Map, disappearing messages, My AI, privacy settings and the stuff parents should actually know — we also have a full parent’s guide to Snapchat.

What Can You Do With Empty Bath & Body Works Candle Jars? Read This Before You Reuse Them

Bath & Body Works says its reusable candle jars can become planters, organizers and catch-alls — but some popular reuse ideas are specifically off-limits.

If you have a cabinet full of empty Bath & Body Works candle jars because they are too cute to throw away, congratulations, you have accidentally created a second hobby.

The good news is that Bath & Body Works is actively leaning into reusable candle vessels now.

The slightly less fun news: some of the things people casually use empty candle jars for are things the brand specifically says not to do.

So before you turn one into a candy jar, makeup pot or tiny soup bowl — yes, people do this — here is what Bath & Body Works currently says.

What Bath & Body Works says you CAN use empty candle jars for

On its current reusable ceramic candle jars, Bath & Body Works suggests reusing the empty vessel as things like:

A desk organizer for pens, clips and other little things that normally migrate across your desk.

A catch-all for keys, coins or random tiny objects.

A succulent planter.

A craft-supply container for beads, buttons or other non-food items.

Honestly, this is why I keep jars. They look expensive enough that my brain refuses to believe they are trash.

And the planter idea is not new. Bath & Body Works was sharing candle-jar planter inspiration years ago, which is why we already have a whole Bath & Body Works candle jar planter post in the TTB archive.

Do not turn the new ceramic candle jars into food containers

This is the part worth knowing.

Bath & Body Works currently says its reusable ceramic candle jars are not food-safe.

The company also says they should not be reused for anything that touches skin, food or drink.

So the cute little jar that looks like it would be PERFECT for candy on your desk?

Use it for paper clips instead.

And I would not assume an older or different Bath & Body Works candle vessel is food-safe just because it looks like a normal jar. If the container is not specifically labeled for food contact, keep the reuse idea decorative or organizational.

Bath & Body Works also says not to use a knife or direct heat to remove leftover wax

There are approximately eleven billion candle-cleaning hacks online, and some of them get aggressive.

For its current ceramic candle jars, Bath & Body Works specifically says not to use a knife or other sharp object to remove leftover wax or wicks.

It also says not to use heat from a microwave, oven or stovetop to remove wax residue.

That is probably the most useful sentence in this entire post because I have absolutely seen “just put the jar in the oven” floating around the internet as if glass and ceramic have never cracked in the history of civilization.

Follow the instructions for the specific vessel you own rather than forcing out wax with sharp tools or extreme heat.

What I would actually do with the empty jars

I would keep this simple.

For a current reusable Bath & Body Works ceramic vessel: desk organizer, succulent, catch-all or craft storage.

For an older glass 3-wick jar: I would still stick to non-food uses unless the specific vessel is labeled for food contact.

And if you are saving twelve of them because you swear you are going to make a gorgeous matching planter wall one day?

I am not here to judge you. I am here to enable you responsibly.

Start with the original candle-jar planter idea, then maybe — maybe — we can finally clear out that cabinet.

Why Is October’s Full Moon Called the Hunter’s Moon?

Why is October’s full moon called the Hunter’s Moon? The name comes from seasonal hunting and winter food preparation — and the history is more nuanced than most lists make it sound.

Every October somebody asks the same question: Why do we call this full moon the Hunter’s Moon?

And the answer is actually more practical than mystical.

The familiar name comes from the time of year when people in the Northern Hemisphere were preparing for winter. The harvest was largely finished, fields were more open, leaves were dropping, and game was easier to see. Extra moonlight after sunset could extend the time available for hunting.

So “Hunter’s Moon” is basically an old seasonal survival name that stuck.

The Hunter’s Moon comes right after the Harvest Moon

The Hunter’s Moon is traditionally the first full moon after the Harvest Moon.

The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the September equinox, which means it usually lands in September but can occasionally fall in October. The next full moon becomes the Hunter’s Moon.

That is why the Hunter’s Moon is usually an October thing — but the calendar date itself is not the rule. Its relationship to the Harvest Moon is.

Why was this moon useful for hunters?

By this point in the season, crops had been gathered and fields were more open. Animals that had spent the summer feeding were easier to spot, and communities were preparing food for the colder months ahead.

There is also a neat sky-watching detail behind the tradition.

Around the Harvest and Hunter’s Moons, the moon can rise relatively soon after sunset on consecutive evenings at northern latitudes. That means less total darkness in the early evening — exactly the kind of extra light that mattered before headlamps, porch lights and grocery stores existed.

National Geographic describes the Hunter’s Moon as tied to the season’s winter food preparations. Current Space.com coverage similarly explains that the cleared post-harvest fields and bright moonlight made it easier to hunt and prepare food for winter.

Is “Hunter’s Moon” a Native American name?

This is where the internet tends to flatten a lot of different traditions into one sentence.

There is not one universal Native American full-moon naming system. Different Indigenous nations and communities used different names connected to their own seasons, foods, landscapes and traditions.

For example, Space.com’s 2026 Hunter’s Moon guide notes that the Cree use a name translated as Migrating Moon, while Ojibwe and Haida traditions include names translated as Ice Moon or Freezing Moon.

So it is more accurate to say that the moon names commonly used today come from multiple cultural traditions that were collected, translated and popularized over time — not one single ancient list everybody used.

When is the Hunter’s Moon in 2026?

In 2026, the October full moon reaches its full phase on October 26.

For the exact peak time, viewing notes and the spiritual/astrological side of this year’s moon, we have a separate guide to the October 2026 Hunter’s Moon.

This page is the “why is it called that?” answer.

Does the Hunter’s Moon actually look different?

Not because it is called the Hunter’s Moon.

A full moon does not become a different astronomical object just because it has a seasonal nickname. The dramatic orange color people sometimes associate with an October moon is usually strongest near the horizon, where moonlight passes through more of Earth’s atmosphere.

And yes, it can look enormous when it rises behind trees or buildings — but that famous “huge moon” look is mostly the moon illusion, not the moon suddenly swelling up for Halloween.

The name is basically a little piece of seasonal history

That is the part I love about these moon names.

They are not scientific classifications. They are reminders that people watched the sky because the sky was useful.

It told you what season you were in, what work needed doing, what food needed preserving and how much light you might have after sunset.

So when the Hunter’s Moon rises this October, you are looking at the same moon we always see — just carrying a very old seasonal nickname with it.

The October 2026 Hunter’s Moon peaks late Oct. 25 in western U.S. time zones and just after midnight Oct. 26 Eastern. Here’s the timing and Taurus spiritual meaning.

TL;DR

The October 2026 full moon reaches its astronomical peak at 12:11 a.m. EDT on Monday, October 26 — which is 10:11 p.m. MDT and 9:11 p.m. PDT on Sunday, October 25. It is traditionally called the Hunter’s Moon. In tropical astrology, this full moon falls in Taurus, a symbolic setup commonly associated with stability, values, comfort and deciding what is actually worth holding onto.

October’s full moon is one of those annoying calendar moments where two people can give you two different dates and both be right.

If you are on the East Coast, the moon becomes astronomically full just after midnight on Monday, October 26, 2026. In Mountain and Pacific time, that exact same moment lands late on Sunday, October 25.

So if you are planning a moon walk, journaling night, crystal situation, or just want to know when to look up, here is the version that does not make you do timezone math.

When is the October 2026 full moon?

The Hunter’s Moon reaches its exact full phase at 12:11 a.m. EDT on October 26. That converts to 11:11 p.m. CDT, 10:11 p.m. MDT, and 9:11 p.m. PDT on October 25.

That means Colorado gets a particularly convenient full-moon moment: late Sunday night instead of the middle of the workday. You do not need to catch the exact minute, though. The moon will look very full around the evenings on either side of the peak.

Why is it called the Hunter’s Moon?

October’s full moon is traditionally known as the Hunter’s Moon. The name is tied to the old seasonal rhythm of preparing for winter after the harvest, when the bright autumn moon gave people more evening light.

The name is folklore and tradition, not a different astronomical kind of moon. Astronomically, it is simply the full phase of the lunar cycle.

What is the spiritual meaning of the October 2026 full moon?

This is where astronomy and astrology need to stay in their own lanes. The date and exact full-moon moment are astronomy. Spiritual and astrological meanings are symbolic traditions used for reflection, not scientific predictions.

In tropical astrology, the October 2026 full moon falls in Taurus, opposite the Sun in Scorpio. Taurus is generally associated with stability, comfort, values, money, the body and the things we want to keep. Scorpio symbolism leans toward change, shared resources, intensity and letting go.

Put those together and the reflective question is actually pretty useful: what is genuinely making your life steadier, and what are you hanging onto simply because it is familiar?

A simple Hunter’s Moon reset

You do not need special supplies. You definitely do not need to make the moon responsible for a decision you already know you need to make.

Write down three things that currently make you feel secure. Money counts. People count. A routine counts. Your weird little coffee ritual counts.

Circle the one thing you are protecting out of habit instead of love. An obligation, subscription, clutter pile, expectation, relationship pattern — whatever immediately came to mind.

Do one physical thing. Cancel it, move it, clean it, put the money somewhere better, send the text, or schedule the appointment.

The Taurus symbolism works best when it leaves the notebook and turns into something tangible.

Do you have to do a full-moon ritual at the exact peak?

No. A full moon is not a cosmic microwave timer. If Sunday night works for you, use Sunday night. If Monday night is the only time you can be alone for twenty minutes, use Monday night.

The point of a reflective practice is the reflection. Missing 10:11 p.m. by seventeen minutes does not void the moon.

What comes next?

The next major lunar checkpoint is the October 2026 new moon in Libra, while our September Harvest Moon guide is still useful if you want to compare how the symbolism shifts from Aries into Taurus.

You can also browse the rest of our Oh So Spiritual guides for moon phases, tarot, crystals and the practical side of all of it.

Frequently asked questions

What date is the October 2026 full moon?

The exact full-moon moment is October 26, 2026 in Eastern Time and UTC. In Mountain and Pacific time zones, that same instant falls late on October 25.

What time is the October 2026 full moon?

It peaks at 12:11 a.m. EDT on October 26, which is 11:11 p.m. CDT, 10:11 p.m. MDT, and 9:11 p.m. PDT on October 25.

What is the October full moon called?

October’s full moon is traditionally called the Hunter’s Moon.

What sign is the October 2026 full moon in?

In tropical astrology, the October 2026 full moon is in Taurus, opposite the Sun in Scorpio.

A foam-board UFO, a backpack frame and a tiny alien turn this DIY costume into the best kind of Halloween chaos. Here is how Duong built it.

Some Halloween costumes are cute. Some are clever. This one looks like a tiny UFO rolled into the neighborhood, grabbed a kid and decided subtlety was for Earthlings.

The DIY alien abduction costume was made by Duong for her son Milo and shared through Costume Works. The illusion comes from a foam-board flying saucer supported by PVC pipes and a backpack, then loaded up with a clear dome, an alien, lights and streamers. It won Best Costume at a trunk-or-treat, which feels completely fair.

Duong’s finished alien abduction costume, shared through Costume Works

What you need for the alien abduction costume

Eight foam boards

Duct tape

Gold and silver spray paint

A large clear punch bowl for the UFO dome

An alien figure or stuffed alien

Fairy lights and circular lights

Iridescent streamers

Two strong PVC pipes

A sturdy box, expanding spray foam and a backpack

Duong did not publish exact measurements for the saucer or support frame. That is the one part you have to size for the person wearing it. Measure the wearer, the backpack and the doorways the costume needs to clear before cutting eight boards into a spaceship the size of your kitchen.

How the foam-board UFO comes together

Duong arranged four foam boards, drew a large circle across them and divided the circle into 12 sections. She repeated that for the UFO’s top and bottom. After cutting the sections, she removed one wedge from each circle and taped the remaining 11 pieces together. That missing wedge lets each flat circle pull into a shallow saucer shape.

A closer look at the lights around Duong’s finished UFO. Image shared through Costume Works

She cut a large center opening in both halves, painted the saucer gold and silver, then attached the clear punch bowl as the dome. The alien sits above the dome. Fairy lights outline the top and bottom, circular lights add the classic UFO glow underneath, and iridescent streamers become the tractor beam.

The backpack is doing the sneaky work

The saucer is not simply hanging from the costume. Duong ran two strong PVC pipes through the UFO and secured them with spray foam. She anchored the other ends inside a box, then placed that box in Milo’s backpack. Once the backpack is on, the frame holds the saucer upright while leaving his hands free.

Lights and streamers give the finished UFO its full tractor-beam effect. Image shared through Costume Works

Test the costume before Halloween night

This is an adult-build project. Follow the product directions for cutting tools, hot glue, spray paint and expanding foam, and use paint and foam only with the ventilation their labels require. Keep the light battery packs secure and easy to reach.

Before adding every last streamer, have the wearer try the backpack indoors. Check the weight, balance, visibility and clearance around doors and stairs. A spectacular costume stops being fun the second its UFO clips a porch railing.

The original entry does not pretend this is a five-minute costume, and neither will we. It is a foam-board engineering project wearing a Halloween costume. But if your household enjoys going wildly overboard in October, Milo’s glowing little spaceship is exactly the kind of ridiculous brilliance worth attempting.

Check the App Behind That Orange or Green Dot on Your iPhone

Orange means your microphone is in use; green means your camera is. Check the app behind the dot, then decide whether to keep its access.

That tiny dot at the top of your iPhone deserves a look: orange means an app is using your microphone; green means an app is using your camera, either on its own or together with the microphone.

Okay, but which app? That’s the useful next question. You can check recent access in Control Center, then decide whether you want that app to keep its permission.

Apple introduced these privacy indicators with iOS 14. They are still part of the iPhone, so you do not need to chase down an old software update to explain them.

Orange dot, green dot, or orange square?

Orange dot: The microphone is in use without the camera.

Green dot: The camera is in use. The microphone may be active too.

Orange square: This has the same microphone meaning as the orange dot. Its shape changes when Differentiate Without Color is enabled under Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size.

Those meanings come from Apple’s guide to the orange and green indicators. The color tells you which hardware is active; it does not explain why an app is using it.

How to check which app used your microphone or camera

Open Control Center and look at the message at the top. Apple says it identifies recent camera or microphone use.

The gesture depends on your phone. Following Apple’s Control Center instructions:

iPhone X and later, excluding Home-button models: Swipe down from the screen’s upper-right corner.

iPhone SE or iPhone 8 and earlier: Swipe up from the bottom edge.

If you accidentally open your notifications, try again from farther to the right on a phone without a Home button.

How to change an app’s camera or microphone permission

If the app’s access surprises you, check its permissions:

Open Settings > Privacy & Security.

Tap Camera or Microphone.

Find the app in the list and switch its access off if you do not want to allow it.

Apple’s current permission guide uses the Privacy & Security menu. Older instructions may simply call it Privacy.

Want more detail? Check App Privacy Report

On iOS 15.2 or later, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > App Privacy Report and turn it on. Its Data & Sensor Access section can show when apps used your camera or microphone during the past seven days.

There is one catch: Apple says the report only begins collecting information after you enable it. A newly enabled report will not reconstruct the week before you switched it on.

If access still seems odd, Apple recommends checking the app’s privacy policy, its App Store privacy information, or asking the developer how it uses that access.

For another useful iPhone trick, here’s how to use your keyboard as a trackpad.

Your microphone. Your camera. Your call.

What Does the 🗿 Emoji Mean? Moai vs. Moyai, Chat Meaning, and Why People Use It

The 🗿 emoji is officially Moyai and commonly called Moai. Here’s what the stone-face emoji means in texts, memes, and chats — including from a guy or girl.

The emoji is officially named “Moyai,” but most people call it the moai emoji. In texts and social media, it is usually used as a deadpan, stoic, awkward, or deliberately ridiculous reaction.

Basically, it is the face you send when the sentence is already doing enough and you just need to stand there like a rock.

You can copy it here:

What does the emoji mean in chat?

There is not one secret translation. Emojipedia notes that is often used for a stoic, deadpan, or silly expression, and that fits how it shows up in group chats and memes.

Think:

“I just sent the email to the wrong person. ”

“The meeting about shorter meetings ran 90 minutes. ”

“He said ‘trust me’ and somehow that made it worse. ”

Sometimes it reads as “I have no words.” Sometimes it is exaggerated confidence. Sometimes somebody is just being weird on purpose. The rest of the message matters.

What does mean from a guy or a girl?

The meaning does not change because a guy or girl sent it.

If someone sends after a joke, embarrassing story, flirty comment, or ridiculous statement, it may be a deadpan reaction — basically an emotionless stone face for comedic effect.

It can also feel dismissive if the conversation is serious. There is no reliable way to use one emoji to determine what somebody secretly feels about you.

If the distinction actually matters, read the whole conversation. Or ask. Revolutionary, I know.

Is it called moai or moyai?

Officially, its Unicode name is “Moyai.” Emojipedia explains that the emoji is also widely known as Moai, and its design resembles the famous stone figures on Easter Island.

So if you searched “moai emoji,” “moyai emoji,” “stone face emoji,” “stone man emoji,” or “rock face emoji” and landed here: yes. You found the right little guy.

Why does the moai emoji show up in sigma and Chad memes?

That carved, completely unbothered expression made an easy fit for internet jokes built around exaggerated stoicism, confidence, or the “Chad” and “sigma” archetypes. Emojipedia specifically notes its use in those memes.

That does not mean every is a sigma reference. Sometimes a rock is just being a rock.

What is the stone face emoji called on iPhone?

It is the same emoji. Apple’s emoji keyboard lets you browse or search emoji from the keyboard. If searching does not surface it quickly, you can also copy this one:

Apple’s current iPhone instructions say to tap the emoji or next-keyboard button to open the emoji keyboard, then browse or search for the emoji you want.

So what does mean?

Most of the time, is a deadpan reaction. It can communicate stoicism, awkward silence, mock seriousness, exaggerated confidence, or “I am just going to stand here and let that statement exist.”

It is officially Moyai. It is commonly called Moai. And no, one stone face is not enough evidence to declare a relationship emergency.

Keep the joke in the sentence. Let the rock stand there.

The 7 Chakras Explained: What Each One Represents and Where to Start

Jamie Slack

The seven chakras are a spiritual framework for grounding, creativity, confidence, love, communication, intuition and meaning. Here’s what each one represents and where a beginner should start.

The seven-chakra system is a spiritual framework that maps seven symbolic energy centers from the base of the spine to the top of the head.

Each chakra is associated with a different set of themes — grounding, creativity, confidence, connection, communication, intuition, and spiritual meaning.

That is the spiritual framework. Chakras are not scientifically established anatomical structures, and a “blocked chakra” is not a medical diagnosis.

What they can be is a surprisingly useful way to organize reflection. If one of these themes keeps showing up in your life, start there instead of trying to fix all seven before breakfast.

What are the seven chakras?

Modern Western chakra systems usually describe seven major centers arranged along the body. Cleveland Clinic and Healthline both summarize the familiar seven-chakra model while keeping it in the complementary/spiritual lane rather than presenting chakras as physical anatomy.

Root chakra — Muladhara: grounding, safety, stability, belonging

Sacral chakra — Svadhisthana: creativity, emotion, pleasure, flexibility

Solar plexus chakra — Manipura: confidence, agency, self-direction

Heart chakra — Anahata: compassion, connection, love, boundaries

Throat chakra — Vishuddha: communication, expression, honesty

Third-eye chakra — Ajna: intuition, perception, imagination, perspective

Crown chakra — Sahasrara: spirituality, meaning, connection to something larger

1. Root chakra: grounding and stability

The root chakra, or Muladhara, is the first chakra and is commonly associated with feeling grounded, safe, stable, and supported.

If your life feels shaky, root-chakra work can be as glamorous as paying a bill, making an appointment, eating something, cleaning one surface, or putting both feet on the floor.

2. Sacral chakra: creativity and emotion

The sacral chakra, or Svadhisthana, is linked with creativity, emotion, pleasure, relationships, and adaptability.

This is the “am I actually letting myself enjoy anything?” chakra, which frankly feels rude but occasionally useful.

3. Solar plexus chakra: confidence and agency

The solar plexus chakra, or Manipura, is associated with confidence, personal power, motivation, and the ability to choose and act.

Use it as a prompt for where you need more agency — not as proof that every confidence problem lives in an invisible yellow wheel near your stomach.

4. Heart chakra: compassion and connection

The heart chakra, or Anahata, centers on love, compassion, connection, grief, forgiveness, and boundaries.

Heart-centered does not mean having no boundaries. Sometimes the most loving thing available is a very clear no.

5. Throat chakra: communication and expression

The throat chakra, or Vishuddha, is associated with communication, expression, listening, and saying what you actually mean.

If you keep swallowing the sentence, this is probably the symbolic lane to explore.

6. Third-eye chakra: intuition and perspective

The third-eye chakra, or Ajna, is associated with intuition, perception, imagination, and seeing the bigger picture.

A hunch can tell you what to investigate. It does not automatically become evidence just because it felt profound.

7. Crown chakra: spirituality and meaning

The crown chakra, or Sahasrara, is usually connected with spirituality, meaning, consciousness, and a sense of connection beyond the individual self.

You do not need to have a dramatic mystical experience for that question to matter. “What gives my life meaning?” is plenty.

What does it mean if a chakra is “blocked”?

In spiritual language, a blocked chakra usually means the themes associated with that chakra feel stuck or difficult.

That language can be useful as metaphor. It should not be used to diagnose physical symptoms, mental-health conditions, trauma, or another person’s behavior.

If something hurts, feels medically wrong, feels unsafe, or is seriously affecting your life, check the real-world explanation too.

Do you have to balance all seven chakras?

No.

You are allowed to use the framework selectively. Pick the theme that is actually relevant right now.

If communication is the problem, start with throat. If you feel scattered and unstable, start with root. If you are trying to make a decision and cannot tell the difference between intuition and wishful thinking, start with third eye.

How are chakras different from an aura?

In modern spiritual systems, chakras are described as specific energy centers while the aura is described as a field surrounding the body. They are related in many contemporary teachings, but they are not the same concept.

We have a full guide to the difference between auras and chakras if you want that rabbit hole next.

Where should a beginner start?

Choose the life theme that feels most relevant right now.

Read that chakra’s guide.

Pick one grounded practice or journaling question.

Notice what is actually useful.

Keep spiritual symbolism separate from medical, safety, legal, financial, or consent decisions.

You do not need to memorize Sanskrit names, own seven matching crystals, or reorganize your entire nervous system by Friday.

The short version

The seven chakras are a spiritual framework for themes ranging from grounding and creativity to communication, intuition, and meaning. Use the system as a map for reflection, not as anatomy or diagnosis.

Third Eye Chakra Meaning: What Ajna Represents and How to Work With It

The third-eye chakra, or Ajna, is associated with intuition, perception and perspective. Here’s what it represents and a grounded way to work with it.

The third-eye chakra, or Ajna, is the sixth chakra in the modern seven-chakra system. It is usually associated with intuition, perception, imagination, perspective, and seeing the bigger picture.

That is the spiritual framework. It is not a literal extra eye hiding between your eyebrows, and Western science does not recognize chakras as anatomical structures.

You can use the symbolism without turning every gut feeling into a supernatural push notification.

What does the third-eye chakra mean?

In modern chakra traditions, the third-eye chakra is called Ajna and is placed between the eyebrows. Cleveland Clinic describes it as associated with clarity and intuitiveness, while Healthline links it with intuition and seeing the big picture.

That makes it a useful reflection framework for questions about perspective, attention, assumptions, and whether you are actually looking at the whole situation.

What color is the third-eye chakra?

The third-eye chakra is commonly associated with indigo or deep purple.

The color is symbolic. An indigo candle, notebook, crystal, or visualization can help create a ritual focus, but it does not prove you have heightened perception or psychic ability.

What does a “blocked” third-eye chakra mean?

In spiritual language, people may use that phrase when they feel confused, disconnected from their intuition, mentally foggy, stuck in one perspective, or unable to trust their own judgment.

Those experiences can also come from completely ordinary things like stress, sleep deprivation, anxiety, depression, medication effects, illness, or information overload. A chakra interpretation should never replace medical or mental-health care.

How do you work with the third-eye chakra?

Ask what you know versus what you assume. Put the facts in one column and your interpretation in another.

Meditate without demanding a message. Quiet attention is enough. You do not need a vision.

Journal on the bigger picture. Ask what you might be missing, what another person could reasonably see differently, and what evidence would change your mind.

Use indigo as a focus cue. Treat the color as symbolism, not proof.

Check intuition against reality. A hunch can be useful information to investigate. It is not automatically a fact.

Does opening your third eye make you psychic?

There is no scientific test showing that “opening” a chakra creates clairvoyance or gives reliable access to hidden facts.

Some spiritual traditions connect Ajna with intuition, foresight, or inner vision. You can explore that symbolism without using it to claim you know somebody else’s private thoughts, predict an outcome with certainty, or replace information you can verify directly.

Is intuition the same as a spiritual message?

Not necessarily.

Intuition can also describe fast pattern recognition built from experience. Sometimes your brain notices something before you can explain why. That can be worth paying attention to without turning every uneasy feeling into a prophecy.

A useful rule: let intuition tell you what to check, not what you are required to believe.

How does the third eye connect to the throat and crown chakras?

In the modern seven-chakra framework, they represent different themes that can work together.

The throat chakra focuses on communication and expression. The crown chakra is associated with spirituality and larger meaning. Ajna sits in the middle as the symbolism of perception and perspective.

For the broader energy-field concept, start with our aura guide.

A simple third-eye chakra practice

Choose one situation you feel uncertain about.

Write down the facts you can verify.

Write down your strongest hunch.

Ask what evidence supports that hunch and what evidence would contradict it.

Sit quietly for a few minutes without trying to force an answer.

Choose one real-world thing you can verify next.

That still counts as spiritual reflection even if no purple beam appears between your eyebrows.

The short version

The third-eye chakra is the sixth chakra and is spiritually associated with intuition, perception, imagination, and perspective. You can use Ajna as a reflection framework while keeping the evidence boundary clear: chakras are spiritual concepts, and intuition is not automatic proof of hidden facts.

Root Chakra Meaning: What Muladhara Represents and How to Work With It

The root chakra, or Muladhara, is associated with grounding, safety and stability. Here’s what it represents and a practical beginner practice.

The root chakra, or Muladhara, is the first chakra in the modern seven-chakra system. It is usually associated with grounding, stability, safety, security, belonging, and having enough support to deal with ordinary life.

That is the spiritual framework. Chakras are not scientifically established physical structures, and feeling anxious or unsafe is not proof that an invisible energy center is blocked.

But “what helps me feel grounded and secure?” is a genuinely useful question whether you believe in chakras or not.

What does the root chakra mean?

The root chakra is commonly called Muladhara and placed at the base of the spine or tailbone area in modern chakra maps.

Cleveland Clinic associates it with groundedness, stability, safety, and security. Healthline likewise describes root-chakra traditions in terms of feeling grounded, safe, and connected to the Earth, while also noting that there is no scientific evidence proving chakras exist as physical energy centers.

What color is the root chakra?

The root chakra is most commonly associated with red and the element of earth.

The color is symbolic. Red clothing, candles, stones, or visualization can be a ritual cue, but they are not treatment for anxiety, pain, digestive symptoms, or anything else medical.

What does a “blocked” root chakra mean?

Spiritually, people may use that phrase when they feel unstable, ungrounded, unsafe, disconnected, anxious about basic needs, or like they cannot get their footing.

Those experiences can also reflect real problems that need real solutions: money stress, unsafe housing, trauma, anxiety, depression, health problems, relationship instability, or simple exhaustion. If the practical foundation is shaky, a meditation can support you, but it cannot pay the electric bill or make an unsafe situation safe.

How do you work with the root chakra?

Handle one practical loose end. Pay the bill, make the appointment, fill the gas tank, clean the kitchen counter. Grounding loves boring competence.

Put your feet on the floor. Slow down and notice what is physically supporting you right now.

Use a real grounding technique. Name things you can see, hear, touch, smell, and taste. The spiritual symbolism and the nervous-system practice can coexist.

Use red as a focus cue. A candle, flower, notebook, clothing, or visualization can make the ritual intentional.

Ask what would make you five percent safer or steadier. Then do the smallest realistic version of that.

Does working with the root chakra mean pretending everything is safe?

No.

Grounding is not spiritual denial. If something is actually unsafe, the goal is not to meditate until it feels fine. The goal is to recognize reality clearly enough to choose the next useful step.

A good root-chakra practice should make you more connected to your actual life, not less.

How does the root chakra fit with the other chakras?

Muladhara is the first chakra in the common seven-chakra framework. It is the foundation symbolism underneath the rest of the system.

The sacral chakra moves into creativity, emotion, and pleasure, while the solar plexus chakra focuses more on confidence and agency.

We also have a separate guide to crystals traditionally associated with the root chakra; that page owns the crystal-specific intent, while this one is the broader meaning guide.

A simple root chakra practice

Put both feet on the floor.

Take a few slow breaths.

Name three things that are stable or supportive in your life right now.

Name one thing that genuinely feels unstable.

Ask what part of that problem is within your control today.

Take one small practical action.

Very mystical. Also possibly effective because you finally made the phone call.

The short version

The root chakra is the first chakra and is spiritually associated with grounding, safety, stability, and belonging. You can use Muladhara as a reflection framework while keeping the evidence boundary clear: chakras are spiritual concepts, not scientifically established physical structures, and real safety problems need real-world solutions.
