Donkey Nannies Exist, And They Have The Cutest Job Ever
This is the absolute cutest thing I have seen all day long — and it has to do with donkeys and itty bitty lambs! Gah!!
Let me tell you, if you need a bright spot in your day, just take a look at some pictures of baby animals, and your mood will instantly change for the better, AMIRITE?!?
So, they have these donkeys in Italy that are designated as Donkey Nannies, and they have the most adorable job on the planet.
What do they do?
Well, they are used by shepherds to safely and efficiently move their animals from the high pastures down to the lower pastures.
These baby lambs are too little to make the long voyage on their own, so donkeys are fitted with special rug backpacks that have pockets on the sides.
The lambs are put down into these pockets, and the donkeys carry them from pasture to pasture.
How Do Donkey Nannies Work?
The donkeys can carry up to 8 lambs at a time, and it is absolutely the cutest little caravan you will set your eyes on.
Don’t worry. The lambies still get time with their mommies.
When the shepherds let the flock stop for breaks, the lambs are let out to stretch, have a little cuddle, and get a bit of milk from their moms before the flock keeps on going to their destination.
These methods are used by shepherds driving huge flocks livestock in the early spring from the pre-alpine hills to the plains of Lombardy, northern Italy for grazing.

It isn’t known if other shepherds, other places in the world, also employ these practices of Donkey Nannies, but they totally should!!
How stink’in cute is this?!?
Shepherds and farmers use the donkeys because of their territorial and protective behaviour, using them to protect the lambs from predators.

It makes me want donkeys and sheep — just so I can do this. LOL!!
Or, maybe I’ll just keep looking at the pictures of this adorable way to transport little lambs.
