It’s almost summer, it’s time to prep the pools for swimming, which in many cases means refilling the pool with water.

I was looking into adding this 22-foot tiki-style pool to our backyard for this summer.

It can take FOREVER to fill a pool with the garden hose, and we saw some things online that implied that some firefighters would fill pools, so of course, we had to look into it.

What I learned is that yes, the firefighters can fill up your pool, but usually they will decline.

I have a huge amount of respect for firefighters, they save lives, including my youngest daughters.

Do they even have the time to help with tasks like filling a swimming pool? Not really.

If you call them there may be a chance they will say yes, but you should brace yourself and prepare to hear them answer “no”.

However, there are times that they will say yes but expect to pay a fee for the service and they often donate those fees to charity.

Here are some reasons why they will most likely tell you no:

  • The demand could get out of control. Firefighters have a lot to do, they help with way more than just fires and if they say yes to one person, then people will expect them to always step in.
  • Money. It really isn’t in the budget to fire up a huge fire truck and send it along with some firefighters to your home to fill up your pool.
  • They have specialized skills that are needed elsewhere and they need to roll when the calls come in. You know, like saving lives and stuff like that.

Here is a reason why you may get a yes, so it doesn’t hurt to ask:

  • Fundraising! Some fire departments that are not as busy may actually say yes and charge a fee to do so. This could help the department raise much-needed funds for the service to help with equipment and upgrades.

So the answer to whether firefighters will fill your pool is, sometimes and maybe.

All you can really do is call and ask if they offer the service and how much the fee is, and please understand if they say no.
