Poop is no laughing matter. (Unless it’s fake poop, that s#$@ is funny.) I know there are all kinds of laxatives and medicines you can take to help get things moving, but sometimes you want a more natural alternative.

That’s why this list of 15 foods that help you poop (that aren’t prunes, because EVERYONE knows about prunes) is pretty much the best darn list you will ever read.

10 Foods That Help You Poop

1. Kiwi. Kiwi’s are high in fiber and low in sugar, so they won’t bloat your tummy. (Plus, you can make them into a chocolate dipped kiwi bar. Yum!)

2. Popcorn. Popcorn is high in fiber, and can give you some of that roughage that will help you get things headed to the out door. (Make up a batch of this white chocolate buttered popcorn for an extra tasty treat.)

3. Flaxseeds. Ground flaxseed can be thrown into just about anything to add an extra dose of fiber. (Don’t believe me? Try these flourless banana bread muffins. You will be in heaven.)

4. Oranges. Not only are oranges high in fiber, but they have something in them called naringenin, which works like a laxative. (This candied orange peel is a fun snack and full of the stuff.)

5. Oatmeal. Oatmeal contains both soluble and insoluble fiber– together they both bulk up the poo AND soften it making it easier to do your business. (These oatmeal yogurt cups are an easy delicious way to eat the stuff if you’re like me and you can’t stand it when it’s mushy.)

6. Rice. Nobody is sure WHY rice helps you poop, but studies have shown that people who eat more rice are much less likely to develop constipation that those who don’t. (This hawaiian fried rice is full of stuff to help you poop.)

7. Aloe Vera. Aloe has been considered a laxative for a long time, and is found in many traditional laxative pills. (Get the benefits of Aloe Vera without taking a pill using these aloe vera ice cubes.)

8. Spinach. Spinach is packed full of fiber, of course but it also has a TON of magnesium, which will pull the water in and help things get all flushed out. (This cranberry almond spinach salad is my favorite salad of all time.)

9. Green beans. Green beans are beans of course, so they’re high in fiber, but they are way lower in fermented sugars than regular beans, and that means you won’t be gassy after eating them. (Bacon green bean bundles are like eating a little bundled up slice of party.)

10. Coffee. Coffee actually makes the muscles in your colon contract, and that makes things move on out. (Yes, even these chocolate coffee truffles will do the trick.)

  1. I can only read about the kiwi. There is just extra junk/spam and no way to see the rest!
Highly disappointed since I have a son who really has issues with constipation and using miralax is not what I want to use. All the ads are complicating this site.

    1. Kiwi, oranges, popcorn, coffee, spinach, green beans and flaxseed
