Mosquitoes are pesky insets that can be damn near impossible to get rid of once you are surrounded by them. While some places seem to be more infested with them than others, you my have noticed you never see them at Disney Parks and there are a few reasons for that.
Now, I really should never say never because you can’t eliminate mosquitoes 100% but for the most part, seeing one at a Disney Park is rare and it’s not by accident.
According to reports, there are a few intentional reasons why you won’t spot a blood sucking insect during your Disney Park visit especially near Disney World.
Here’s Why You Never See Mosquitoes at Disney Parks
Joe Potter Is Disney’s Famous Pest Controller
Walt Disney met a man named Joe Potter back in 1964. At the time, the man had an extensive knowledge about pest control after dealing with the swarms of mosquitoes carrying malaria. It was his knowledge that lead Walt to hire Joe on the spot.
You may have noticed the name “General Joe Potter” on one of the boats when traveling on the ferry from the Ticket and Transportation Center to the Magic Kingdom and this is why.

Running Water Is Everywhere
One of the things mosquitoes love is standing water so they can lay their eggs. That is why you may notice that Disney parks have all sorts of fountains and running water. It was made intentionally to keep these pesky insets at bay.
Even if water looks like it might be still in the parks, it’s not.

The Architecture of Buildings
The design of Disney parks is much more than aesthetic. In fact, the design of the buildings was also made around the ideas that standing water couldn’t stay and would instead drain away from the buildings and rides. Again, also working to keep the mosquitoes away.
Liquid Garlic Spray
Okay, the most brilliant idea of all is the spray they use around the parks. It isn’t chemically made pesticides. Nope, it’s more of a natural spray made from liquid garlic.
Walt was very adamant about not using pesticides around his parks so this natural alternative was made.
But how can you never smell garlic, after all, garlic has a very strong and distinct smell.
Well, according to reports, the amount that they use is so small that humans can’t smell it, but mosquitoes are very susceptible to it. In fact, mosquitoes notoriously can’t stand the smell of garlic, so Disney sprays an extract of it around the parks.
I bet the next time you visit a Disney Park you’ll be looking around to see if you can spot any of these blood sucking bugs, huh?
