Homemade 1-Ingredient Caramel
You can make one — yes, ONE — ingredient caramel, and it’s just about the easiest, most delicious caramel you will ever taste.
My grandmother was a nutritionist by trade, and a phenomenal cook — as grandmas are.
When she passed, I inherited all her cookbooks and hand-written recipes — her most prized possessions.
As I was going through the recipes — lost in memory lane — I came across one that I had forgotten about, but it immediately took me back 30 years.
It was my FAVORITE thing as a kid, and I thought Grandma was pretty much a wizard every single time she made it.
The recipe is for 1-Ingredient Caramel, and y’all, it’s so stinking easy.
There’s no mixing, stirring, thermometers, or standing by the stove involved.
All you need is one little ingredient and your favorite slow cooker.
Here’s What You Need For 1-Ingredient Caramel
1 Can of Sweetened Condensed Milk
It’s very important that you note that this is NOT Evaporated Milk.
Only Sweetened Condensed Milk will work.
How To Make 1-Ingredient Caramel
Get out your slow cooker, and put it on the kitchen counter.
Stick that can of Sweetened Condensed Milk right in the center of the slow cooker bowl.
Cover that can all the way up with water.
You will probably have to fill up the slow cooker just about all the way with water, but that is fine and completely normal.
If it’s easier to set the can of Sweetened Condensed Milk on its side, do that.
BUT, do NOT open the can.
Now, you just put the lid on the slow cooker.
You want to set the timer for 8 hours, and the temperature to low.
Side Note: I accidentally cooked mine for 8 hours on high. *GASP* It turned out fine, just a bit dark and thick.
Then just walk away and let it do its thing.
If your slow cooker tends to lose water, you may need to add some during the cooking. You don’t want the can of Sweetened Condensed Milk to become uncovered by the water.
The water will start boiling, and the label will probably fall off. But, that’s okay. Just let the slow cooker do what slow cookers do.
When the 8 hours are up, turn the crockpot off.
Take the can of Sweetened Condensed Milk carefully out of the slow cooker with a pair of tongs.
Let it cool completely, until you are able to comfortably hold the can in your hand without burning the beejoobees out of your hand.
Now, just pop the top off the can of Sweetened Condensed Milk.
Voila!!! Caramel.
OMG. Try not to eat it all in one sitting. It’s truly like sweet, thick, luxurious candy.
Now, you can put it in all the things.
It goes great on ice cream, in yogurt, as a dip for fruit, and I LOVE it in my coffee.
To store it, you want to transfer it to a clean container, and put it in the fridge.
It will stay good for about a week. But, it will probably be gone way before that. *Winky Emoji*
Try it, and let us know how much you LOVE it!!
