Joaquin Phoenix just won Best Actor for his role in Joker at The Oscars and his acceptance speech was quite POWERFUL.

As he approaches the stage, the crowd gives him a standing ovation in to which he asks them to “stop”.

He then goes into a speech about what is wrong with society today saying:

“I’m full of so much gratitude right now and I do not feel elevated above any of my fellow nominees, or anyone in this room,” he began, “because we share the same love, the love of film, and this form of expression has given me the most extraordinary life. I don’t know what I’d be without it. But I think the greatest gift that it’s given me, and many of us in this room, is the opportunity to use our voice for the voiceless. I’ve been thinking a lot about some of the distressing issues that we are facing collectively, and I think at times we feel, or are made to feel, that we champion different causes. But for me, I see commonality.”

While you’d think that’d be the end of his 75 seconds allowed on stage, it wasn’t. He really took the time to express his feelings. He continued:

So many people in this room have given me a second chance, and that’s when we’re at our best, not when we cancel each other for past mistakes.”

WOAH such a powerful message.

He did go on to talk about how we artificially inseminate Cows and steal their babies… While that was quite overwhelming in a speech on live tv, he’s not wrong.

I love Joaquin and everything he stands for. He used his time to share his feelings with society and I find that amazing!
