Summer is simply the best. You have the warm weather, trips to the beach, and enjoying a great cocktail shoreside while watching kids play in the sand. That is exactly what these Mermaid Shell Bath Bombs makes me think about. Being on the beach somewhere, or even at the top of a rock with a yellow and blue fish and a small red crab looking up at me. Yep, total Little Mermaid daydream moment over here! But back to the Mermaid Shell Bath Bombs, they are totally… well, THE BOMB!
Supplies Needed to Make Mermaid Shell Bath Bombs:
- 1/2 Cup Citric Acid
- 1 Cup Baking Soda
- 1/2 Teaspoon Olive Oil
- Witch Hazel (in a spray bottle)
- Young Living Essential Oil
- Neon Pink Food Coloring
- Seashell Silicone Mold
- White Foam Shaving Cream
- Sixlet Pearl Candy (I used Light Blue)
How to Make Mermaid Shell Bath Bombs:
- In a large bowl combine your citric acid and baking soda. Stir until well blended.
- Add your essential oil. With Young Living, you only need 1-3 drops. Stir well.
- Add your olive oil and stir well.
- Add 3 drops of neon pink food coloring. Stir well. Slowly continue to add a few drops at a time until you reach your desired shade. I used about 6 drops in total. Note: If you add to much food coloring at the beginning, it will cause the bath bombs to fizz.
- Spritz your bath bomb mixture with witch hazel (a few short spritz is all you need). This helps the bath bombs mixture stick together.
- With your hands, grab your mixture and firmly press into your silicone mold. You need to pack the mixture in as tightly as you can. Keep doing this until the entire mold is filled.
- Set the mold aside and allow the bath bombs to harden overnight. You can also speed up the process by covering with aluminum foil (it acts as a heating agent).
- After 24 hours unmold your bath bombs by gently pressing the silicone mold from the back side and the bath bombs will pop right out.
- Keep your bath bombs stored in an airtight container that is completely dry and free from any moisture. When ready to use, you can place a bit of shaving cream in between 2 bath bombs. I then added a sixlet candy in the middle for the “pearl”. It turned out really cute!
- Want to enjoy the fizz? Just drop it into the bath and enjoy!

What fragrance oil did you use
If I am interested in making these to sell, is there another alternative to the shaving cream that will hold up in packaging?
Yes. I use a stiff royal icing. (You can find the recipe online) Just pipe a bit between the two and it will hold the shells together and harden making an excellent sugar scrub once the bath bomb dissolves in the bath water. 😀 One batch should fill 20 or so clamshells.
Whip up a bubble bar recipe tailored for the whipped frosting look or either use Whipped soap which won’t dry entirely but does firm up & hold its shape. You can indent it though. Using one of these at least has some bathing benefits whereas the merengue looks pretty but serves no other purposes in bath products. Just search on Pinterest for bubble bar frosting or Whipped soap frosting recipes.
Can I use water instead of witch hazel?
Great this is a useful share..
I will definitely try this, so keep on sharing these healthy tips 🙂
Thank you for putting this up! I have loved making these! They are cheap, easy, and ended up working wonderfully! One of my BFFs birthday’s was coming up, and I was starting feel awful that I didn’t have a whole lot of extra cash to buy some expensive spa basket. So for AT LEAST 4 hours on pinterest trying to find some things that even I could be capable of. FINALLY I found some things to do, including the bath bombs, and I just wanted to say thanks for saving my money. I think you have just gotten a new person to follow your blog!
