In this day and age, you cannot escape technology.

So, as I always say, if you can’t beat ’em, join them.

With that being said, there is a new app that teens are obsessed with and it’s worth knowing about if you’re a parent.

And no, it’s not TikTok.

New App Teens are Obsessed With

The new app that high schoolers are obsessed with is called Gas and it is currently #1 in the app store.

Gas

What is Gas App?

Gas app is a new social media app geared towards teenagers (specifically high schoolers) and it’s tied to your high school.

So, you basically sign-up and join your high school and you will then get a series of questions and you’ll get names of people from your high school and you’ll select the name that fits to get accepted into that area of the app.

That person is then notified you chose them in the app.

While some say it’s actually spreading a bit of positivity among teens, some school counselors are concerned about privacy within the app.

Hamlin Pk-8 counselor Katie Davidson said she knows many kids that have been downloading the Gas app that just came out in August.

“It’s supposed to be used for, is to find out who has a crush on who. It could be a twelfth-grade boy does not really want to approach a ninth-grade girl, but hey we can put her on this app,”

Apparently, the app is also asking permission to have kids contacts so it can create names of students who are not even on the app yet.

Now, there is some anonymous parts of it but for the most part, you sign-up with your name and school and then people would know who you are on there.

As for what it’s being used for, well, we’d like to think it’s for good and kids just being nice to each other but even the school counselor said:

“If people would get on there and say nice and kind things that would be wonderful, but we all know that is not how our world works,”

I mean, she’s not wrong.

So, if you are a parent to a teen, keep an eye on your child and this app.
