The New Starbucks CEO Says He Will Work As A Barista Once A Month And I Already Like Him

Starbucks has a new CEO, and I already like this guy.

If you’ve ever worked food service or retail, you pretty much know that the execs have absolutely no clue what it’s like to actually work in a store.

Some of the crazy ideas they come up with to implement on the store level leave employees scratching their heads in confusion.

Like, how in the world could some of these “great ideas” ever work in an actual, functioning store, right?

But, Laxman Narasimhan — the man taking the reins of the popular coffee chain — is actually doing this right.

He’s breaking the mold of the stuffy executive who sits in their posh office coming up with ridiculous ideas that are nearly impossible to put into practice.

Narasimhan has said that he is actually going to get in some on-the-job training by working in an actual Starbucks store once a month.

I can’t even tell you how huge this is.

As someone who worked retail for 15 years — and was a Starbucks manager — getting the CEO down on your level, knowing exactly what you go through on the daily, experiencing the good and the ugly of the job is like a dream come true!

Not only is Narasimhan going to do his time in different Starbucks locations, he is expecting other Starbucks executives to do the same.

I mean, can I give this guy a hug — or at least a high five?!?

Before he jumped into the role of Starbucks CEO, he spent six months working different areas of the company — from supply chain to barista and everything in between.

Narasimahn told employees that his time as a barista actually helped him better understand what works and what doesn’t.

My cup is full with gratitude and optimism on this morning of my first Starbucks Annual Meeting of Shareholders. — With you, I’ve experienced every aspect of the business to learn what it truly means to wear the green apron.

I wish every single other executive out there would follow in Narasimhan’s footsteps.

They need to actually spend time in the stores they are in charge of, seeing what working on the front lines is really like.

We are a team of partners, and as ceo, I will continue to earn my green apron every day.

Excuse me while I stand up and give Narasimhan a long, slow clap.
