Look, we all want to keep our kids happy, healthy and in-school. I don’t think a single parent has ever wanted to keep their kids home from school, for long periods of time just because.

I mean, have you seen us by the end of holiday break? Trust me, we are READY for our kids to head back to school.

My point is, while we all have good intentions of sending our kids to school as often as possible, there are times of the year (like during cold and flu season) when doing that becomes more diffcult.

I know that whenever my son is sick I am left wondering if he’s sick enough to stay home or if I can just give him some medication and send him on his way.

Not only do I want him to be in school learning, but I also know that the school has expectations when it comes to attendance.

So, how can I determine when is a right or wrong time to send him to school?

Luckily, I found this PSA (public service announcement) going around on Facebook that lays it all out for us.

From my understanding, if a child has a fever, is vomiting, has diarrhea or is showing any other signs of the flu, that child is not to be sent to school today and not tomorrow.

Basically, you give them 2 full days – 48 hours to recover to prevent them from getting others sick.

WHEW! Sigh of relief.

I mean, it makes sense.

If your child is sick, they are sick.

Don’t push it.

Don’t risk it.

Trust me, their amount of homework for a few days is worth having them stay home to get better and keep others from getting sick.

Just keep your sick child home.

So, there you have it. It seems so simple when it’s put into terms like the above, huh?

If your child is sick, just let them stay home. I plan to.
