Starbucks Wants to Say Goodbye to Paper Cups for Good and I’m All About This Plan
First the plastic straws and now paper cups; Starbucks is omitting one-time use plastic cups and are officially going green, or at least trying too that is.
The popular coffee chain is beginning to phase out single-use plastics and instead, are looking for reusable cups that are better for the planet.
So what does this mean for your Chai Latte order in the early morning?
According to a recent statement from Starbucks, the coffee shop is shifting to a reusable cup program that will allow coffee enthusiasts by the end of next year to use their coffee cups from home in every store location in the U.S. and Canada!
By the year 2025, Starbucks plans to give “customers easy access to a personal or Starbucks provided reusable to-go cup for every visit,” the company mentioned Tuesday.
A personal to-go cup for me? I’m in!
Not to mention, Starbucks revealed their personal goal of reducing waste by 50% by 2030 and also mentioned multiple testing programs that can cut down on single-use cups in stores around the world!
Allowing customers to borrow a reusable cup is just one of the ideas Starbucks has up their sleeve and yes you read right, borrowed cups, as in tumblers that are “designed to be returned to stores” that could eliminate single-use cups being used in stores.
Alongside other options Starbucks has stored in the back of their heads, are programs that might even include paying a deposit for cups that customers can return after they use it.
Considering Starbucks already offers a ten cent discount for customers who provide their own cups to refill, Starbucks has also thought of raising that discount to 50 cents, or have coffee goers pay a ten cent fee for a one-time use cup.
Remember Red Cup Day?
While you may be excited to pick up your free holiday cup every November, Starbucks isn’t just giving away decorative cups for fun, the purpose is to motivate customers to bring back that cup every time they want it refilled with caffeine!
A round of applause for Starbuck’s clear mission of going green!
