This trendy nail art tutorial using products from Walgreens is one of my favorite nail designs pretty much EVER.

I love love love doing several different designs on my nails at one time, but I HATE when it takes five hours. I found all these products for this nail art tutorial at Walgreens, and can I just say that they have a killer nail art selection there? I mean– wow, I could paint my nails with funky rockstar designs without ever having to leave the drugstore! So, if you’re wondering how to be beautiful, this nail art is a good start!

These I <3 Nail Art pens from Sally Hansen are the greatest thing ever. I talk more about them in the video, but DUDE– they are water soluble. Which means, if you want to make a design on your nails, but you mess it up, all you have to do is wipe it off with a damp cloth and start over. I love them, and I can’t stop using them! It’s like nail art for dummies, and I am seriously a dummy!

I am also totally in love with that Sugar Shimmer. It’s a textured polish that you don’t need a top coat on top of, so I was worried about it staying on my nails after a few days– but I’ve had it on there for five days now and I STILL don’t have any tip wear. That’s freakin’ unheard of! I want to do skittle nails with it next. How cute would that be? A bunch of different colors of that sugar shimmer all on my nails? I think it’s a total MUST DO.

The Sally Hansen Insta-dri is a MUST HAVE for any nail art girl because it makes the perfect base coat for nail art! It dries so crazy fast that you don’t have to sit around waiting so you can add your dots (like I did here) or  whatever awesome thing you’re adding to your nails!

From now on, I am hitting Walgreens before I go anywhere else to complete my nail art designs! That’s for sure!

I, on the other hand, am a little strange. I am a Registered Nurse by trade, so when one mentions “fingernails,” I immediately think of all the things fingernails can be used to assess and help diagnose. My mind is warped that way.

I am by no means here to diagnose anybody, that’s what actual doctors are for. But, here are ten things that your fingernails may be trying to tell you.

10 Things Your Fingernails Are Trying To Tell You

Do you have pale nails?

This could be a sign of anemia, which is an iron deficiency. It’s possible you have problems with your liver (which coincidentally is high in iron). It’s also possible (Let’s think logically) you might just be cold.

Do you have yellowish nails?

Most likely no big deal, this can be anything from wearing acrylic nails, to stains from nail polish, to smoking. If you notice thickening of the nail along with the yellowing, this may be due to a fungal infection (Which, by the way, is contagious). In very rare cases, yellowing of the nails can be a sign of diabetes, liver, lung, or thyroid disease.

Are your nails tinted blue?

This is a good indicator of poor circulation, often due to heart or lung problems. It could also mean (again, use the logical epicenter of your brain) that you are simply too cold.

Do you have vertical ripples in your nails?

This could be totally normal. In some cases it points to other issues such as an inflammatory disease, or a body deficient in Vitamin B, magnesium, or several other nutrients.

Do you have dry, brittle, or cracked nails?

You might be washing your hands too often or using too much nail polish remover (You’re simply drying out your nails). It can also signal a deficiency in several nutrients, including vitamins A,C or B. Rarely, doctors can use this to help diagnose hypothyroidism.

Do you have nails that have been bitten down to the nail bed?

You may have a bad habit of biting your nails. It may also mean you struggle with OCD or anxiety.

Do you have horizontal ridges in your nails?

This is probably not good. It can be a sign of a plethora of things like psoriasis, uncontrolled diabetes, circulatory disease, or a severe zinc deficiency. It can also be arsenic poisoning or carbon monoxide poisoning. In some cases it means Hodgkin’s disease, malaria, leprosy, or trauma. Sometimes these ridges can accompany a high fever.

Do you have fingernails that resemble a spoon, curving upward?

This not only looks crazy, but it can signal hypothyroidism, heart disease, or liver problems.

Do you have nails that are white with a pink band at the top?

This could just be normal aging, or it’s possible there is an underlying condition, like diabetes, liver problems, heart problems, or kidney problems.

Do you have dark lines under your nails?

Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Go straight to a doctor. This is very serious, and is most likely due to a type of skin cancer.

Do you have any of these nail issues? For the love, don’t take my word as gospel! It would be wise to seek the advice of a medical doctor. They can give you a diagnosis, and get you the help you need … or they may just say you’re absolutely normal.

In the end, I love how they look! So smooth and sleek! It wasn’t until the next day that I learned the hidden downside of my manicure. MY FAKE NAILS CAN’T SCRATCH ANYTHING.

My Fake Nails Can’t Scratch Anything

Maybe it is unlady-like to admit this, but sometimes when I get an itch, like any human, I scratch it. So imagine my surprise when I go to attend to an itch on my ass, instead of relief, it felt more like dragging a cotton swab across a balloon. Sure, they made a dent, but they couldn’t get any friction. My nails have been buffed and polished to an inhuman level that no matter how hard I scratch, I just can’t get no relief!

And it’s not just my butt that gets the occasional irksome itch! No, I’ll get a little tickle on my arm and even though I scrub at it with these rubber eraser tips I can’t satisfy that primal urge to rub away the pain.

You know what I can do? Give myself bruises from trying. Nope, I can’t abraid the surface of my skin, but the flesh underneath is all “WTF ARE YOU DOING?!”

I, like many women, labored under the belief that longer nails meant they would scratch everything, even accidentally. Movies have lied to me! I thought I’d have like…cat talons, or something. Nope. Instead I paid $50 to be de-clawed. Seriously, I think if I was attacked in a parking lot, my assailant would just giggle as I gently massaged his eyelids trying to scratch out his eyes. (Go for the soft bits, ladies.)

The month before, my soon-to-be-sister-in-law showed off her new manicure. The finish was cool but they’d been filed into sharp points. She frowned at her nails and said, “I asked for almond but got stiletto instead. It’s a very popular style, I guess.” At the time I thought it was nuts to want these super tiny pointy crazy sharp nails. Fake nails had to be hard enough to manage. Why would anyone want to file them into little death daggers? But after a week of almond nails, and finding myself using a fork to get an itch in IHOP, I knew something had to give.

So, from here on out, I swear I no longer think of stiletto nails as tacky or insane. I get it.

How To Paint Owl Nails

1. Start with a Brown Nail
2. Use a dotting tool or the head of a sewing pin to paint two big circles right next to each other.
3. With a white striper, go in and add the feathers around the face and the eyebrows.
4. Dot two small white circles inside the yellow ones.
5. Add a little orange beak in between the yellow circles.

Kid’s Nail Art Hacks

1. No time for nail art? No problem, just use those little reward stickers!
2. Use permanent markers. No, seriously. These work and they’re safe!
3. Polka Dot it! There is no easier nail art!
4. Color Street Nail Polish Strips. These things are seriously amazing. They stay on for two weeks and they work awesome on little kid’s nails! (Plus, they’re buy 3 get 1 free if you use my link!) 
5. Or, they make these nail art pens that are water based, so you can wipe them off and redo the designs if you mess up!
6. Watercolor nails. Seriously, these nails are easy peasy, and it’s like a science project on your nails!
7. Keep it super simple. Remember, kids have tiny hands. Those crazy intricate designs that you see on super long fancy nails won’t work on kid hands!
8. Paint skittle nails! This is so simple– you just paint each nail a different color and your kid’s nails will be super cute!
9. Use rhinestones! No, seriously– they are SO easy to put on, and you can just cover them up with a quick top coat!
10. Minions are so freakin’ adorable. And, it turns out they are easy to turn into nail art for kids, too.
11. Use nail polish stripers. You can find these at pretty much any dollar store, and they come in all sorts of cool colors!
12. Use a band aid! I am not even kidding. It makes teeny little dots of adroableness on your nails!
13. FLOCKING! This stuff is amazing and it will make your child’s nails look like something out of a monster’s inc movie! I am ALL about the flocking!
14. If you don’t have all those cool colors that the kids are totally into, just use some old eyeshadow to make your own.
15. Use tape to get cool geometric designs. Seriously, just plain ‘ol tape. I usually paint my daughter’s nails a solid color, then when they start to wear, I add some
16. Go abstract. Okay so, your kids want really complicated Puffles on their nails? Just do a simple version instead!
17. Let them paint on their nails with whatever they want to, and then just seal it with a fast drying top coat! It will stay for days and days!
18. Use their artwork and turn it into nail wraps! They will freak out at wearing their own art on their nails!
19. Want to know how stylists get those perfect little flowers on tiny nails? Dude, it’s easy.
20. Make your own nail decals with a baggie and some nail polish.
21. Use nail foils. These things are amazing. You can get them here.
22. Use a toothpick to make these super cool nail art shapes. So simple.
23. Go matte. For some reason, matte top coats dry super quick and stay on for like, ever.
24. Little stripes. This is a super chic runway manicure that your daughters will think you’re cool just for knowing about!
25. Use Elmer’s Glue as a base coat so you don’t have to use nail polish remover on your kid’s hands!

Spooky Eyeball nails are the easiest Halloween nails EVER.

All you have to do is, paint your nails black, take the end of a pushpin (or a pencil eraser, something kind of big and round) and dip it in white polish. Paint two white dots onto your nail, and then take a toothpick and dip it into black nail polish. Paint a black dot on top of the white circles, and you have the spookiest little eyeball nails of all!

It’s almost that time of the year when everyone is going to pinch me for not wearing green. (Dude, it’s so not my color.) Well, guess what? This year I am going to pinch them right back because I will be wearing an awesome St. Patrick’s Day themed manicure! Check out these awesome St. Patty’s nails!

Note: This isn’t meant to be as permanent as nail polish and probably won’t last longer than a couple of hours, but it’s fun and my daughter and all her pals seem to love it when they don’t want to sit and wait for me to paint regular nail art on their nails.

I had no idea water decals for nails were so freakin’ easy… like my eight year old could do them easy.

1. Cut out the water decls and leave them on the paper.
2. Cut them as close as possible to the image.
3. Dip them in water for 5 or 10 seconds.
4. Peel them off the white backing and stick them down to your nails.
5. Add a clear coat and BAM! The perfect New Year Nail Art!

If you use a topcoat, it will hold up a little longer, but it’s REALLY hard to get in between the rhinestones, so I just wore mine as-is.

• Dawn Olay Hand Renewal Dishsoap (I bought mine at Wal-Mart, they had loads of different smells!)
• Sugar  (Like the kind you would put in cookies!)

It’s really that easy. Fill up a container about 3/4 full with sugar, then fill it the rest of the way with Dawn hand renewal and now you have super froofy expensive-type sugar scrub for a fraction of the price!)=
