The cross-border celebrations between US and Mexican fans in cities like Houston and San Antonio were the kind of thing that makes you feel good about people again.

Canada showed up in a way that surprised a lot of people. It really shouldn't have. Vancouver and Toronto brought energy people are still talking about.

The moments from this tournament are going to live forever

Every World Cup makes moments. Goals that get replayed for decades. Saves that don't seem physically possible. A player crying after a win and somehow making 200 million people cry right along with them.

This one had all of that. By the time the knockout rounds started I was checking my phone every four minutes like I was waiting on medical results.

A World Cup summer gives everyone permission to just be joyful about something together. And that is rarer than it sounds right now.

This one being in North America meant that for a lot of people — especially American fans — this was the first World Cup they could actually attend without a passport renewal, ten grand, and a twelve-hour flight. You could feel that in the crowds. There was something different about the energy when it's genuinely accessible.

And in a weird way, it reminded me of why I think big collective moments matter more than we admit. The celebrating happening right now in the streets of the winning nation is proof that people want to feel good together — and will travel very far, wear very uncomfortable face paint, and lose a lot of sleep to do it.

Honestly? Same.
