I was one of those kids who loved to collect Hot Wheels cars. I had to have all the colors, all the styles, and all the tracks to go with them. To be fair, it didn’t really matter if they were actual Hot Wheels brand cars or not – every car was welcome – but if I had known it would take me about 20 years or so to finally find the perfect type of car, I think even my kid-sized brain would have been smart enough to just not even start. But here it is, after all this time – these Chocolate Race Cars would have been the perfect addition to my childhood collection – for at least a few minutes.

What You’ll Need to Make Chocolate Race Cars:

1/2 cup each color of Wilton Candy Melts (Pick whichever colors you like! I used orange, yellow, and brown/cocoa)

Wilton Sparkle Gel in various colors (I mostly used blue, green, and pink)

SilikoMart Happy Racing Mold

How to Make Chocolate Race Cars:

The first thing you need to do to make the world’s most perfect race cars is to get those candy melts all hot and, well, melty. You can use a Wilton Candy Melt Pot if you have one, or just stick those babies in your trusty microwave for 30 seconds at 50% power, then stir. Go for another 30 seconds and stir again, then repeat at 15-second intervals, stirring after each, until they’re completely smooth. Repeat this process for each color that you’re using.

Fill the race car molds to the top with each color of your candy melts – if you’ve got bubbles, jiggle the mold slightly to remove the worst of them – and place the mold in the freezer for 20-30 minutes until they’re completely set. Use this time to reflect on your life thus far and wonder why you get so excited about chocolate race cars that are meant for children. Remove the mold from the freezer and – very gently – pop the race cars out.

Now, use your sparkle gels to add the details to the cars – wheels, car number, headlights, the driver’s eyes, the works. Go crazy. These are your chocolate race cars, after all, and if you want them to be as covered in details as a heavily-sponsored NASCAR driver at the Daytona 500, then you should totally do it. Once you’re done with the gel details, put the cars back in the freezer for another 20 minutes before displaying and serving. Enjoy!
