There’s something about sugar cookies that just make them perfect for holiday celebrations. So obviously, I decided not to make any of them for Valentine’s Day this year. No way, not me. 2016 is the year of experimentation (I had a year like that during college too…we see where that got me), so a few heart-shaped sugar cookies with red frosting just aren’t going to cut it. Instead, I made this Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookie Dough Bark. Same sugar cookie goodness, but with a twist.

What You’ll Need to Make Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookie Dough Bark:

How to Make Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookie Dough Bark:

Since planning for the future is important, you should start this recipe out by lining a cookie sheet with parchment paper. If you really want to be a rebel, you can do it later. Don’t let some mysterious person on the internet just tell you what to do.

Using the paddle attachment on your electric mixer – or a hand mixer, or a lot of repetitive arm motions – combine the sugar cookie mix with the butter and milk. Set that aside to be used later, and try not to eat all of it between now and then.

Melt your pink candy melts in that greatest of all human inventions, the microwave, by following the directions on the bag. That’s right, my directions are telling you to follow other directions. It’s like direction-ception up in here.

Pour the pink goopy stuff onto the parchment paper (or take a moment to do that parchment paper thing you were supposed to do earlier, you rebel you). You want this layer to be about 1/4 inch thick.

Top the pink layer with whatever’s left of your sugar cookie dough mix (don’t lie, I know you sampled some). Make your life easier by only using a little bit of the cookie dough at a time. Then, refrigerate this for 10-15 minutes until the layers start to harden.

Melt the chocolate candy melts and spread it on top of the cookie dough layer with a spatula or other flat, spreading kitchen device of your choice. You’ll want to do this quickly. Cold layer + liquid chocolate = super fast hardening time.

Top the whole thing off with the Valentine’s Day sprinkles or whatever other holiday-appropriate candies you prefer, then chill for an hour until everything is completely set. Then, enjoy!
