This Video Of Babies Sleeping Alone Outside Has People Freaking Out
Apparently, it is common practice for Danish babies to take naps outside — by themselves — and I’m a little shook.
Can you just imagine leaving your sleeping baby outside here in the states?!? You’d have some Karen calling Child Protective Services in just about a hot minute.
But, in Denmark, they just wheel their little tots outside in baby buggies and let them sleep.
Annie, an American momma living in Denmark, recently shared a video of these sleeping babies on TikTok, and it feels a little wrong.
It turns out, in Denmark, leaving your baby outside to sleep is a very common practice — one that is recommended by midwives and nurses.
Why Do Danish Babies Sleep Alone Outside?
Fresh air is said to keep babies healthy and help them sleep better. Napping your baby in a stroller outside is done in all sorts of weather. Babies are dressed in lightweight wool and have a down duvet that regulate the babies’ body temperature, keeping them warm without overheating.

It isn’t bizarre at all, in Denmark, for parents to just leave their babies outside to nap while they go about their daily lives — shopping, eating in restaurants, etc.
There are even stroller parking spaces outside businesses and in parks!
It’s a totally different way of life, right?!?
Apparently the Danish people have a philosophy that seems pretty foreign to us living in the states. They don’t have the fear of people kidnapping their sleeping kids.
No one wants the responsibility of someone else’s kid.

Now, it’s important to note that you should always follow the recommendations of safe sleep guidelines in the country in which you live.
In Denmark, that recommendation includes babies sleeping outside. Here — not so much.
It’s kind of a “Don’t try this at home” kind of a thing.
As you can imagine, the world of TikTok has a lot to say about this practice of babies sleeping alone outside.
Kind of makes me want to visit Denmark, right?!?
