Why I Blocked Caillou

Oh, Caillou. You know him, you’ve heard him, you either love him or you hate him. (This probably depends on your age. If you’re four, you love him, if you’re 34, you hate him.) Either way, It’s CAILLOU!

There are things about Caillou that are okay. His mom and his dad both work. He has a lot going on in his life, and he’s a small child, so he has emotions. All that is totally okay. I like that Caillou shows my kid she’s allowed to have emotions, but what I don’t like is that Caillou shows my daughter it’s okay to throw a fit.

Why I Blocked Caillou

Um, okay? There are that many Youtube clips of Caillou throwing fits, and they go on for days and days. This is a real problem for me. The worst part? If you watch the clips, HIS PARENTS GIVE IN AND CAILLOU GETS HIS WAY FOR BEING AN UNGRATEFUL LITTLE SNOT ALMOST EVERY TIME!

And that is why Caillou makes me want to cry. Because I am just trying to be a mom. To teach my kid that their are consequences to her actions, and Caillou is getting to skip the beginning of school and go on a special walk with his dad all because he didn’t really feel like getting dressed quickly this morning. (Seriously, that is an actual episode of Caillou.) I don’t want my kid thinking if she does this she gets extra treatment. I want my daughter to know that it’s important for her to be a team player.

So, Caillou, straighten up a bit. You’re four. Learn how to help the fam, not hurt it– and maybe I will let my kids watch you.

But until then, I have blocked you. Forever.

Google Translator doesn’t know this phrasse “to throw fit”. What do you mean with that?

  3. Not for nothing, but you could use these issues as teaching moments. Rather than just ban the show, you could teach your child between real life and tv; between his parents and your daughter’s parents; between right and wrong.

    1. You know, I actually tried that at first. I REALLY did– but it’s just that it is non-stop. It makes it really hard when he keeps doing it again and again… and again.
