Just days after the incident surrounding the very public Chris Rock slap, Will Smith has resigned from The Academy.

Honestly, it’s probably for the best.

Just about everyone knows about the event that surrounded The Oscars Sunday night but in case you need a refresher, The Oscars had to mute the sound because Will Smith was freaking out at Chris Rock.

And just moments before that, Will Smith walked on stage to slap Chris Rock in the face!!

Chris Rock was in the middle of making a joke about Will Smith’s wife, Jada and Will Smith did not like that at all.

Chris Rock was presenting the Oscar for documentary feature and made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith being in “G.I. Jane” because of her shaved head.

That’s when Will Smith walked on the stage and then smacked Chris Rock in the face. It was a good slap too! It first looked like a punch because it happened so fast!

At first, it looked like it may have been a joke but then Will Smith returned to his seat and yelled at Rock, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f-ing mouth!”

That’s when TV’s all over the nation were muted.

Since then, people everywhere have been outraged and wondered how someone could just assault someone on live television and get away with it.

Well, looks like, he won’t be.

In a recent statement, Will Smith said:

“I have directly responded to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice, and I will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct. My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable. The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken. I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film. So, I am resigning from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and will accept any further consequences the Board deems appropriate. Change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I never again allow violence to overtake reason.”

Wow! I just hope this becomes a lesson for everyone everywhere that violence is never the answer.

I truly hope is apology is sincere and he can learn from this.
