You know, I normally don’t mind moths, but if I was to run into this moth I’m about to tell you about, I think I would think I was in a science fiction movie!

The monster sized moth is called the Atlas Moth and it’s known as the world’s largest known moth.

The Atlas Moth has a wingspan of 10 inches and for the first time ever… has been found in the U.S. in Washington State!

The Washington State Department of Agriculture is asking locals for help to see if there have been any other sightings!

I mean where there is one, there must be more right?

The one that was spotted was found in Bellevue, Washington, and was sent to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for identification.

From what is known, this is the first sighting of the Atlas Moth in the U.S. and I can’t even imagine such a creature!

This is a ‘gee-whiz’ type of insect because it is so large. Even if you aren’t on the lookout for insects, this is the type that people get their phones out and take a picture of — they are that striking.

Sven Spichiger, managing entomologist for the state’s agriculture department, said

Right now they are trying to determine if there is a population of the Atlas Moth in Washington and just how large that population of monster moths is.
