Lowe’s has a Holiday Engine kids workshop coming on Saturday, November 14, 2026, and its registration calendar lists October 10 as the signup opening date. That is today, so this is the part to check now even though the building happens next month.

What are the kids making?

The project is a wooden Holiday Engine with a festive train look. Lowe’s official photo shows a little decorated locomotive, complete with wheels and a purple roof. Basically, a holiday craft that gets to look like a train instead of another paper snowflake.

The event page lists a 10 a.m. workshop start. Choose your store in the registration flow to check its available appointment times before planning the outing.

How to sign up for the free workshop

Lowe’s lists monthly in-store kids workshops among its free MyLowe’s Rewards Kids Club benefits. A parent or guardian needs a MyLowe’s Rewards account and a Kids Profile for the child. Lowe’s says you can create that profile while registering.

1. Open the Holiday Engine registration page.
2. Select your participating store and check for an available time.
3. Sign in and complete the child’s registration, creating a Kids Profile if needed.
4. Keep your confirmation and check its arrival instructions.

The date on the calendar is the start of registration, rather than a promise that every store has an open spot. If your location is not showing availability yet, check the event page again instead of showing up without a reservation.

Put both dates on your calendar

There are two dates to remember: October 10 for signup and November 14 for the workshop. Mixing those up would be an extremely annoying way to miss a tiny train.

If your kid is already in holiday mode, this is a nice little plan to look into. The train does not build itself, which is rather the point.

This is the kind of kids’ craft that looks wildly more complicated than it is. The horn, ears, cheeks, flowers, and face are all simple pieces. Put them together and suddenly the plate has a full personality.

What do you need to make a paper plate unicorn?

• Two white paper plates
• Gold glitter paper
• Pink glitter paper
• Black permanent marker
• Glue
• Scissors
• Small faux flowers

The second plate is for the ears, so do not let anybody wander off with it and a slice of cake.

How do you make the unicorn plate?

1. Cut the horn. Cut a long triangle from the gold glitter paper. It can be skinny, chunky, slightly crooked, or whatever your particular unicorn demands.
2. Make the ears. Cut two pointed ear shapes from the second white paper plate, then cut two smaller matching shapes from the pink glitter paper.
3. Add the inner ears. Glue each pink piece inside a white ear.
4. Cut the cheeks. Cut two small circles from the pink glitter paper.
5. Arrange everything first. Place the ears and horn behind the top edge of the whole plate. Move them around until the face looks balanced, then glue them in place.

6. Build the flower crown. Set the faux flowers across the top of the plate before you glue anything. Once you like the mix of colors and sizes, glue them down around the base of the horn.
7. Practice the eyes. Draw the curved eyes and eyelashes on a scrap of paper first. The marker is permanent, and this is not the moment for an experimental eyebrow.
8. Finish the face. Draw the eyes on the plate, glue on the pink cheeks, and let everything dry completely.

The one part worth doing slowly

The eyes do most of the work. A simple curved line with three little lashes is enough to make the whole plate look sweet instead of mildly alarmed. Practice once, take a breath, and then commit.

Make it your unicorn

Use rainbow flowers, metallic paper, or completely different cheek colors. A tiny bow would be adorable. So would a wildly oversized horn. The basic shapes are forgiving, which is exactly what a kids’ craft should be.

Regardless of what you fill your Easter eggs with, whether that’s colorful candy or coins, let’s just be honest and say that not every kid gets as many eggs as the person running beside them.

So in order to prevent tears and hurt feelings on Easter Sunday, the key is color coordinated Easter egg hunts, thanks to @Christmas mama on Facebook for sharing her holiday hack!

Starting with those plastic Easter eggs that always seem to go missing from the year before, grab your colored eggs and stuff them with whatever prizes you prefer, keeping in mind to include the same prize in each Easter egg for a fair game.

You can find a handful of plastic Easter eggs from Amazon that come with 50 eggs in every order featuring every color of the rainbow because the more color in your egg hunt, the better.

Separate your eggs by color and set them aside for now.

Yep. It WAS just Christmas, but March 17th will be here before you can say “Luck o’ the Irish!” So, it’s time to be ready, my friend.

Part of getting ready for that lucky day full of Shamrocks and Rainbows includes doing all those activities with the kids that bring all the memories.

One of my FAVORITE of all the St. Patrick’s Day activities is the Leprechaun Trap! What the heck is a Leprechaun Trap, you ask?

It’s kinda like that pesky Elf on the Shelf had a mischievous little red-haired cousin, and he is here to wreak havoc on the world. Your job is to catch that little bad boy before he can cause even more havoc!

I had never, in my entire ** years of life, ever heard of a Leprechaun Trap — that is until my friend, Courtney, posted on Facebook that she had made one with her daughter.

I was intrigued — as I am by ANYTHING having to do with magic, fairy tales, and imagination. I had to know exactly what in the world this “Leprechaun Trap” was, and why I had missed the boat on this freaking awesome tradition.

What Is A Leprechaun Trap?

Well, before we talk about the Leprechaun Trap, we should probably back up and talk about what exactly is a Leprechaun.

In Irish folklore, a Leprechaun is a mythical fairy-type creature who spends his days making shoes and making even more mischief. He loves gold, rainbows, and all things Irish and green.

While he is said to be “mythical,” there have actually been Leprechaun sightings from as early as the year 700, so YOU decide.

It’s said that every leprechaun has a pot of gold that he hides deep in the Irish countryside. According to legend, the leprechaun must give this treasure away to anyone who captures him. But this little fellow won’t let his treasure slip away easily. The story goes that the sneaky leprechaun can fool a person into looking away for an instant. And just like that, he vanishes into his forest home and takes his treasure with him.

This is where the Leprechaun Trap comes into play! We have to try to trap him to 1) prove he’s real, and 2) capture his pot o’ gold!!

Where Do You Get A Leprechaun Trap?

Well, you can buy one — but why in the world would you do that when you can MAKE your own Leprechaun Trap?

They are super simple to make, and they use every ounce of your child’s imagination to create the perfect trap.

Basically, here’s what you need:

• A Container (Like one of your left over Amazon Boxes from Christmas)

That’s legit all you HAVE to have. Beyond that, let your child get their creativity on by using:

• Markers, Crayons, Colored Pencils, Paints or Some Other Coloring Substance
• Colored Construction Paper
• Pipe Cleaners
• Googly Eyes
• Popsicle Sticks
• Wrapping Paper
• Yarn
• Whatever else you can think to use

How Do You Make A Leprechaun Trap?

The hardest part of this whole endeavor is covering your work surface. It’s gonna get messy, so you want to protect the surface you are working from. I use a plastic tablecloth (like you use at a birthday party), and tape it to the underside of my table.

Then you dump all your supplies onto the table, and get to creating.

Think Green; Think Lucky; Think Rainbows; Think Gold Coins.

What Do You Do With The Leprechaun Trap Once It’s Done?

The kids leave it out overnight, to try to “catch” that sneaky little Leprechaun.

But — Spoiler Alert — the Leprechaun is too sneaky for the trap.

Here’s where your handy-dandy skills with the Elf on the Shelf come into play.

You make it look like you had a little visitor — green footprints, footprints in powdered sugar, etc.

Then the Leprechaun leaves a note saying something like, “Wow! Your trap was super tricky — but you can’t catch me this time!”

Maybe get super creative and “catch” a St. Patrick’s Day cupcake or some other treat for your little that the Leprechaun left behind.

I did NOT want to embarrass myself in front of grown adults, showing off my toddler-level skill set at all things creative and artsy! It’s quite possible a toddler could, in fact, out craft me.

We got to the “farm,” and they had barrels full of every kind of Christmas greenery imaginable. They even had dried berries and pinecones you could choose from to embellish your wreaths a bit.

I’m not going to lie, my first thought was, “I’m in hell. Holiday hell.”

But, I wanted to put on a good face — be the good example — for my kids, so I went and found a place at one of the many tables to sit at.

In front of our seats, all nice and neat on the table, was a wreath form, some (what I now know are called) greening pins, some scissors, and some floral wire.

What the heck was I supposed to do with all this??

It was my daughter, actually, who started me on my wreath-making quest. She hadn’t ever made a wreath, but she has an insane sixth sense when it comes to craft things.

We went to pick out our greenery — I decided to keep it simple with some pine Christmas greenery, but my daughter went wild, choosing different colors of greenery, different berries, and anything else she could scoop up.

She showed me how to put the greenery on the wreath form, and it was a very painless process. It was actually fun!!

And, best of all, there was no WRONG way to make your wreath.

Heck, my 10-year-old son — who takes after me in the artsy department (poor child) — made his own modge podge wreath, and it’s adorable!! We actually hung it on our front door!

I think this is going to become a yearly tradition! Why pay $75 or more for a wreath, when you can make your own for WAY less than half of that?!?

Here’s How To Make Your Own Wreath

You need to start out with a wreath form. We used a simple straw form, and there wasn’t any hot glue or wrapping wires around everything involved. It was so simple!!

Next, get whatever greenery you like. No, it doesn’t have to be REAL greenery. They have plenty of awesome faux greenery at most craft stores.

You can keep it simple, and go for all one kind of greenery. Or, you can go wild, incorporating different colors and textures — maybe pinecones and ribbon.

You’ll also need some greening pins, some floral wire, and a pair of scissors.

Now, you just get to creating. You don’t even have to have a plan, just start pinning things in place with your greening pins.

Don’t be afraid to cut the greenery if needed. Just pin the pieces on with your greening pins.

Start with the inside of the wreath, and work your way to the outside. You want to cover every surface that can be seen when you hang it.

You might have to bend the branches around. No big deal. Just use a couple greening pins to hold your branches in place.

When you get all the greenery where you think you want it (you can always add more later), you start pinning your embellishments on — your pinecones, ribbons, etc.

To get the pinecone on the wreath, just wrap some floral wire around the inside of the pinecone — where it can’t be seen. Leave enough floral wire at the ends to wrap around a greening pin, then poke that greening pin down into the wreath form. You can always move it if you don’t like it!!

That’s pretty much it!! You can keep going, making it full and gorgeous. Or, you can keep it simple, and just add a bit of greenery, and maybe a pinecone or two.

I promise — if I can do it, you can too!

Okay, not every decorative piece is edible, but there is a large candy bar filled with countless glass jars stuffed to the brim with real candy. 

The ongoing Christmas project has caught the attention of many for your pages while going viral with consecutive updates and videos to show progress. 

Making use of dollar tree supplies and hobby lobby stores, each section of her home looks like something you can eat! 

Racking up millions of views, Kristyn Cole’s project all started with gingerbread bread walls using long slabs of cardboard, insulating foam sealant that looks like white frosting when dried, white spray paint, and colorful to go containers for giant gum drops. 

Using mounting tape, the gum drops and icing were placed around her window area.

In another video, the creative mom also used pink lanterns and white wrapping paper stuffed on either side to act as large pieces of wrapped hard candy! 

Using a fishing line to hang the giant pieces of candy, this area of the room almost looks like a scene from Willy Wonka. 

Creating more candy pieces by painting a handful of craft discs in pastel colors and hot glued beads for sprinkles wrapped in tissue paper and clear plastic wrap, the candy bar is complete with some edible candy available and life-sized lookalikes. 

Think Hershey park’s gigantic candy bars for a size comparison. 

Although her gingerbread house is not yet complete, you can follow her TikTok account @kristyncole to see the finished results later on in the holiday season! 

Don’t we all wish we could live in a life-size gingerbread house. 

Although if your Christmas budget doesn’t include a tropical vacation this year, consider turning your Evergreen tree into a gigantic pineapple in the living room instead.

Rather than the usual bells and whistles, candy canes, and red bows, Christmas gatherers are transforming their Christmas trees into pineapples to bring the tropics, home.

Taking inspiration from the pineapple sitting on the kitchen counter, wrapping your Christmas tree with decorative rope in a criss cross pattern will act as the outer skin of the yellow fruit, keeping in mind to leave space at the top.

The top of your tree which will be left unwrapped will be the crown of your pineapple inspired holiday tree.

Decorat with yellow and green ornaments or white Christmas lights, sip on a Piña Colada while admiring your work.

So move over Evergreens, pineapples are being used as holiday decor to brighten up homes and the results are better than what you might think.

Rather than eating the fruit, individuals are posting to social media and showing off their creativity by dressing up pineapples that are often stocked on grocery store shelves and throwing on lights and ornaments.

While some completely deck out their pineapples with multi-colored lights, red and white paint, Christmas ornaments, and candy canes, some keep it simple by dangling red and round ornaments on the crown of the fruit.

Besides, wrapping your pineapple in string lights versus a Christmas tree is entirely easier and less time spent dodging tree branches and sweeping pine needles up off the floor.

Starting with a few rolls of toilet paper, orange felt and cinnamon sticks, you can make pumpkins to place around the house without having to worry about any of them rotting. 

Unravel your toilet paper and re-wrap, giving the toilet paper roll a fluffier look to start. 

Grab your orange, black or dotted Halloween patterns and wrap them the fabric around the toilet paper rolls starting from the center, and then outwards. 

Stuff back in the center at the bottom; you can use hot glue to keep everything in place.

Use a small cinnamon stick as the stem to replicate as if the pumpkin was just picked off the vine, and to fill the space in your house with a nice autumn smell!

Grab fake leaves from the Dollar Store to hot glue at the top and you’re finished!

Consider a pack of oranges written down on your next Christmas list of things to get from the store a must, to decorate your home with.

Apparently slicing several oranges and baking them in the oven can be used as Christmas decor for wreaths and Christmas ornaments along with cinnamon sticks and pinecones.

Not only are these homemade holiday decorations simple to create, but it leaves the house smelling like autumn.

To dry out your orange slices, grab parchment paper and a sheet pan.

Pat the orange slices dry with a paper towel before putting them into the oven.

Bake for two to three hours at 200 degrees and flip throughout.

Slightly crispy but not burnt like a marshmallow is what you’re going for.

Use twine to make ornaments or to string onto a wreath for this year’s holiday decor in the living room, kitchen or even hanging from the Christmas tree in the cozy corner of the dining room.

Maybe Tim Burton’s Jack Skellington was on the right track when he searched for the perfect median in both the Halloween and Christmas season. 

Thanks to @Amy Chapman on Facebook who posted a DIY Halloween creation using Christmas decorations and Disney’s Hocus Pocus cauldron, the creation unlike the movie, is not just a bunch of “Hocus Pocus.”

Starting with Disney’s Hocus Pocus cauldron or any Halloween cauldron will do, find the cardboard box in the attic labeled Christmas decorations and rummage through until you find purple battery powered string lights and clear, spherical holiday ornaments.

You can find a cauldron at Target for just $10.

Turn the purple lights on and place them at the bottom of the cauldron, stack the clear ornaments on top until the battery powered lights are fully covered and only the light shines through.

The finished look should look like a bubbling cauldron in the middle of a witch casting her spell.

Happy Halloween, mwa ha ha ha ha!

Thanks to social media, you can now create a jack-o-lantern candy chute for trick-or-treaters instead of just regularly handing out king-sized candy bars to kids. 

Carve your pumpkin like you normally would, cut out the eyes, add eyebrows if you will and a triangular nose, but make sure the mouth is wide enough to add a vacuum hose through! 

As long as your jack-o-lantern’s mouth is wide enough to stuff through a vacuum hose, this will act as the chute so candy can slide down and greet trick or treaters. 

Keep in mind to have the vacuum hose higher up than the jack-o-lantern and at a slant so the KitKat bars, Hershey Kisses, and Reese’s pumpkins can slide down easily. 

Send the hose down through an upstairs window and your candy chute is complete! 

This new way of creating life-sized ghosts out of chicken wire will make you do a triple take, wondering if what you’re actually seeing is real, or not.

Thanks to @brandon.hardy.art who showed off his DIY skills recreating the trending ghosts, as it turns out, draping a sheet of sheer fabric on top of the chicken wire makes each ghost look even more realistic than before.

Delicately adding a sheet of white fabric on top of the chilling masterpieces turn the standing chicken wire ghosts into floating ones.

The finished look is a mixture between excellence and a ‘why didn’t I think of this before’ realization.

Leave alone or toss a few single battery powered glowing blue lights underneath so trick-or-treaters and passing neighbors can see the illusion of a family of ghosts simply just having a tea party in your front yard.

The TikToker also shared a simple yet effective tip, and that is to make sure the fabric doesn’t cover the entire sculpture, leaving a few chicken wire sections unhidden will enhance the floating affect!

How to plan an eyeball pumpkin

1. Pick the eye first. Choose a small white pumpkin, then find an orange pumpkin wide enough to hold it without forcing it through the opening.
2. Mark the opening. Hold the white pumpkin against the larger one and sketch a hole slightly smaller than the white pumpkin’s widest point, so it can sit visibly behind the orange edge.
3. Carve and test the fit. Cut the orange pumpkin, remove its seeds, and adjust the opening little by little. Have an adult handle cutting tools.
4. Give it a stare. Draw or paint an iris and pupil on the white pumpkin. The original examples below show both dramatic veiny eyes and simpler versions.
5. Set it in place. Position the white pumpkin so the painted eye faces outward. A battery-operated light can illuminate the outer pumpkin if you want a nighttime look; keep it away from the painted surface.

Those are suggested assembly steps based on the pictured idea, not a claim that we’ve tested a particular pumpkin size or carving method. Dry-fit the two pumpkins before you cut; their shapes vary.

There are many ways to carve a pumpkin.

Whether you prefer a more villainous look or a cute smile, pumpkin carving is a must do during the October month.

To mix things up, people on social media are carving a different type of pumpkin this year, something around the lines of Walt Disney’s Mike Wazowski character?

That’s right, pumpkin carvers are stuffing small white pumpkins inside of larger orange pumpkins and painting a big eyeball right in the center of the white pumpkin!

The finished look resembles a cousin of the two-legged and one-eyed green monster found in Monster’s Inc.

The white pumpkin serves as the outer white parts of the human eye while the orange pumpkin is made for the shape.

While some have painted eyeballs with distressed blood vessels and others who went for more of a subtle look, this new way of carving is certainly creepy.

Besides, these eyeball pumpkins also serve the purpose of keeping an eye out on your house for mischief night.

With that being said, people are making chicken wire Christmas balls that are literally, bundles of joy.

Thanks to Crafty Morning who created the DIY project, you can now make homemade large or small chicken wire balls decorated in Christmas lights to hang on trees, to cover the front porch with or to simply sit pretty on the front lawn.

With just ten steps, a few handy tools and packets of chicken wire, prepare to light up the front lawn even more so than last year!

People on social media are gathering chicken wire and creating life-sized ghost sculptures for spooky season.

The creations are so good, that you might have to do a double take, full warning.

From what it looks like, grabbing a few rolls of chicken wire from the hardware store and a mannequin to follow the shape will do the trick!

While some people created ghost sculptures similar to dancing characters in the The Haunted Mansion film, Jack Skellington and his dog Zero are also no strangers with this trend.

After sculpting your ghosts, you can choose to paint them white for a spookier appearance or as others have done, placed neon glowing lights at the bottom and in front of the sculpture to make them illuminate at night!

Place them in your front yard, front porch step or have your masterpieces dancing in the backyard, there’s no telling on whether or not people passing by will think your house is haunted, but it certainly will put on a show!

It’s even more appealing because it’s super cheap, you barely need anything to do it, and what you do need you can mostly get from the dollar store!

You only need a few items to get started, and this may turn into a new addiction for you and the family.

The first time that I did a project like this with kids and teens, it was a team-building event for our Jr. Roller Derby team.

Instead of Halloween shirts, we made practice jerseys for the kids to wear with their derby name, number, and whatever designs they wanted.

The ideas are unlimited with this, but today we are focusing on Halloween themes.

What you need to make the Halloween shirts

• Black T-shirts in sizes for the whole family
• Wooden Halloween cut out designs from the dollar tree or craft store
• Spray Bottle
• Bleach
• Water
• Gloves

I like to grab project shirts from Michaels to use, they’re plain and affordable and good quality, but you can also find some at the Dollar Tree.

The wooden Halloween cutouts can be found at the Dollar Tree or a craft store like Michaels, just cover the hanging holes with tape.

The cutouts are pretty thin and you just lay them out on the shirt where you would like the design to be located.

Take the spray bottle and make a water and bleach mixture that is about 80% bleach and 20% water.

You can change the pattern that bleaches out by tightening and loosening the spray nozzles.

Keep it tighter for a straighter line of bleach for noticeable lines, then loosen the nozzle to make it mistier to get the bulk of the areas covered in the bleach solution.

You’ll want to mist over and around the design cutouts, then you wait.

You will need to be a patient for just a few minutes while the bleach works and let it dry.

Once the bleach is dry, go ahead and wash and dry the t-shirts to finish the project!
