I love it when science and snack collide. But, of all the things, these Black Hole Donuts blow my mind.

Ingredients

  • Donuts
  • 2 cups baking mix I used Bisquick
  • 2 cups milk
  • Icing:
  • 1 cup white vegan chocolate melting chips
  • 1 tube orange decorating icing in a tube
  • Black GEL food coloring
  • 1-2 tblspn vegetable oil

Method

  1. Preheat mini-donut maker (you can also cook in a donut pan at 350-degrees).
  2. Combine baking mix and coconut milk with a hand mixer until smooth. If it’s too thick, add one milk by 1/3 cup increments, stirring between, until you reach pancake batter consistency.
  3. Spoon into your mini-donut maker or donut pan. If baking, place in the oven for 8 minutes or until browned.
  4. Remove from the donut maker when slightly browned and the donut maker opens without tearing the donuts. Set aside to cool to the touch.
  5. Place the white vegan chocolate melting chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave them on high 1 minute.
  6. Stir white vegan chocolate melting chips until they are fully melted.
  7. Add black GEL food coloring to the melted vegan chocolate. If the chocolate becomes clumpy and not liquidy, add a tablespoon of vegetable oil at a time and stir.
  8. Dip donuts into the vegan chocolate and set aside to “set”.
  9. Using a small star tip on the tube of orange decorating icing, on one quadrant of each donut, drop-in 6-10 “stars” around your black hole.
  10. Serve!
