A fake shirt collar. A scrunchie with a zipper. Socks that do not even go on your feet. The further you get into Amazon’s fashion accessories, the more it starts to feel like someone is selling individual parts of an outfit.

Then you look at what they do, and damn it, some of these are pretty clever.

These are the odd little clothes, accessories, and wardrobe fixes that caught my attention, with the fit details worth checking before you add anything to your cart.

1. A tiny ring that changes how a shirt hangs

Big Green Egg teamed up with FINEX on a 5-quart cast-iron Dutch oven, and the run is limited to 500 individually numbered pieces. The price is $349.99, so we’re talking about a serious grill-person present, not a little stocking stuffer.

The collaboration went on sale October 13. It’s the first product from the two brands, with more collaborations planned for 2027.

The collectible detail is underneath

FINEX’s eight-sided shape is here, along with a brass lid knob and coiled stainless-steel handles. Turn the pot over and there’s a Big Green Egg-and-FINEX design on the bottom. Each piece is individually numbered.

That bottom artwork is the detail to show the person who already has opinions about cast iron. The included lid is much more understated.

Made in the U.S., the Dutch oven is intended for everything from slow braises and stews to bread baked on the Egg. It arrives pre-seasoned with flaxseed oil.

Check the size before you gift it

ALDI’s U.S. listing has LEGO Snowman Ornaments, set 40812, priced at $12.99 and available from November 4. That falls in its November 4–10 ALDI Finds week.

This is a little building project that becomes Christmas décor, rather than a box of already-finished ornaments. The 168-piece set makes two snowmen, with hanging rings for displaying them on the tree. LEGO recommends it for ages 6 and up.

The adult snowman’s top hat has a tiny festive decoration, while the child wears oversized round glasses. Both have carrot noses, and the finished figures can stand in a holiday display instead of hanging. The taller one measures over 4 inches high; the smaller one is over 3 inches.

You don’t have to wait for ALDI

LEGO’s U.S. shop currently lists the same set as available for $12.99, with a limit of five per household. So ALDI’s upcoming arrival is another place to look, not an exclusive release or a lower advertised price.

If you’re already planning an ALDI trip, check your store’s availability and price before heading out. If you’d rather order directly from LEGO, factor shipping into the total: its listed standard shipping charge for an order up to $25 is $4.95.

Either way, look for set 40812. Two snowmen, one small holiday build, and no need to clear an entire shelf for a winter village.

BOLD: How Women PLAY BIG by Leading Instead of Pleasing, the new book by Barrie Zucal, takes on that pattern. Released October 14, it asks women to give their own ambitions a place in the decisions they make.

When being “good” gets expensive

Read these limits before switching anything

Carnival’s FAQ says adults 21 and older sharing a stateroom must buy the same FunPack if any adult buys one. Younger guests are not required to buy a package.

Purchase and applicable pre-cruise redemptions must happen at least three days before departure. You cannot wait until boarding to apply unused dining or excursion benefits.

Dining excludes The Chef’s Table and Bonsai Teppanyaki. Social and Epic dining benefits cannot be topped up for a pricier meal; excursion benefits can. Availability is not guaranteed, and unused benefits do not get a refund.

Already bought Essentials or Ultimate? It will not automatically become a FunPack. Switching requires canceling and repurchasing, which can also cancel reservations tied to the old package. Check availability before touching those bookings.

Price the drinks, internet and experiences you would actually purchase separately, then compare that total with the package bill for everyone required to buy it. A bigger bundle is not a bargain if half of it stays unused.

Three different starts to put on your calendar

• October 30: DoorBOOsters begin. This is Best Buy’s Halloween-themed kickoff to holiday sales.
• November 6: Early Black Friday deals begin. New doorbuster deals will drop every Friday.
• November 19: The main Black Friday event begins. Best Buy says this event brings 10 days of Black Friday doorbusters and deals.
• December 1–6: Cyber Week deals. The retailer also lists a Cyber Sunday and Monday sale event before Cyber Week.
• December 18–24: Last-minute savings. This is the final named sale event on the announced calendar.

So, no, you do not have to wait until Black Friday itself to start comparing offers. But a sale start date is not a guarantee that the particular TV, laptop or gift on your list will have its lowest price that day. Check the exact model and price rather than treating every “doorbuster” as the same deal.

The holiday return window has a few important limits

Best Buy’s announcement says most purchases made October 30 through December 31 can be returned through January 15, 2027. It lists January 31, 2027 for My Best Buy Plus and Total members.

Those are the announced holiday windows for most purchases, not a promise that every item qualifies. Check the return terms for the exact item before buying a gift early.

Thanksgiving shopping will be online

Best Buy says its stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Its app and website will still be available for shopping. Extended store hours begin November 1, with local hours listed on each store’s page.

The useful distinction: October 30 starts the holiday sales, November 6 starts the early Black Friday offers, and November 19 starts the main Black Friday event. Those are three separate reasons to check the calendar, not one giant sale with three different names.

This isn’t a box of original bears pulled out of storage. Build-A-Bear calls the new Bearemy a reimagined tribute to the mascot, launching its “30 Years of the Stuff You Love” celebration.

According to the company’s announcement, Bearemy is available in Build-A-Bear Workshop stores and online while supplies last. You can find the release through the anniversary collection.

Yes, the anniversary celebration is starting early

Build-A-Bear’s first Workshop opened in October 1997, which makes 2027 its actual 30th-anniversary year. Bearemy is the early kickoff, not a reason to question your math.

More vault and special-edition anniversary releases are due to begin in January 2027. Those are still ahead; Bearemy is the bear arriving now.

The donation runs beyond this launch

Build-A-Bear says it will donate $3 from every Bearemy sold from October 27, 2026, through December 31, 2027, to the Build-A-Bear Foundation, a U.S. nonprofit. That is a per-bear donation, not a discount on the purchase.

For fans who remember Bearemy, this release is a new version of a familiar face. The rest of the anniversary lineup will have to wait.

Yes, a discount can leave you with a higher total once shipping is added. Target’s published shipping rules give us a useful example of how that can happen.

The $35 cart that turns into $37.49

Target’s free-shipping promotion uses a $35 minimum after applicable promotions and discounts, before tax. For this example, we’re talking about eligible items shipping within the contiguous United States.

Its shipping help page lists a $5.99 charge when an order doesn’t qualify for free shipping. Paying with a Target Circle Card or having Target Circle 360 can change that, so set those benefits aside for a minute.

Here’s a hypothetical 10%-off example, not a current coupon offer or a tested checkout:

• Without the discount: $35 in eligible merchandise + $0 shipping = $35 before tax.
• With 10% off: $35 minus $3.50 = $31.50 in merchandise.
• If the $5.99 shipping charge then applies: $31.50 + $5.99 = $37.49 before tax.

The coupon saved $3.50. Losing free shipping added $5.99. That leaves you paying $2.49 more for the same items.

Congratulations on your discount. Please enjoy this additional charge.

Check which $35 rule you’re reading

Target also has a separate rule for certain items marked “only ships with $35 orders.” That’s about whether those items can ship at all. Target says discounts can bring that cart below $35 without making the items ineligible to ship.

Being eligible to ship and qualifying for free shipping are different questions. Check the shipping charge in the final order summary rather than assuming one $35 message answers both.

Before adding a random thing to “save” on shipping

Compare the final totals with and without the coupon, if you can remove it. Include shipping and tax, and check for any delivery upgrade or extra fee. The example above assumes no other free-shipping offer, applicable card or membership benefit, or surcharge.

If pickup is available and convenient, compare that option too. And if you’re thinking about adding something just to cross the minimum, look at the total cost of that extra item after any discount. A $10 filler purchase is still $10 you weren’t planning to spend.

Something you genuinely need might make sense. A decorative pumpkin recruited solely to rescue a coupon deserves a second look.

This is exactly the kind of shopping math behind Do We Actually Need This? Cute stuff is allowed. Paying extra because the word “savings” distracted you is optional.

Chocolate has some competition for the advent-calendar spot this year. The 2026 NeeDoh Squishmas Advent Calendar has 24 tiny toys tucked behind its doors, and Kohl’s lists it for $29.99.

Kohl’s showed it as out of stock, with shipping unavailable, when checked on October 26. This is one to watch for a restock.

A little surprise each day

Kohl’s describes 24 Teenie toys in different shapes and textures. Open one door a day starting December 1, and the last surprise lands on Christmas Eve.

That’s the appeal: the daily opening is part of the gift. No need to round up two dozen little presents and wrap them yourself.

The buying details to check

The $29.99 price was listed on October 26, 2026. Kohl’s says this item is excluded from coupons, so don’t build your budget around a discount code.

One heads-up if you’re trying to keep it a surprise: Kohl’s says the item ships in its original packaging, which may reveal what’s inside.

Check the current listing for stock and fulfillment options. If you’re comparing calendars elsewhere, make sure you’re looking at the 2026 edition rather than an older box.

That bareheaded Santa is the detail that makes this one. Dale is trying to blend in with the candles while still looking very much like a chipmunk in a stolen beard.

It lights up, but it isn’t a candle you burn

Disney Store lists the figure for $49.99. The sculpted display has Dale and two Santas together on a faux-wood-finish base, with flickering, flame-shaped LED lights above the hats.

Despite “candle” being in the name, this is a battery-powered decoration—not a wax candle with a wick. Disney lists resin, stone powder, LEDs and electronics among its materials. It takes three AAA batteries, which are included.

Check the width before clearing a spot

The whole display measures approximately 5¾ inches high, 7½ inches wide and 2¼ inches deep. That’s one compact scene rather than three separate candle figures to spread across a mantel. The straight-on product photo shows the full base and Dale’s disguise without the surrounding holiday greenery.

The design comes from Disney’s 1952 animated short Pluto’s Christmas Tree. You don’t need a whole matching collection for the joke to work; the missing hat and beard tell the story.

The figure was included in the Disney Store merchandise drop announced for October 26, and its U.S. listing was live at $49.99 when checked October 26, 2026. Check the listing for current stock and delivery details before ordering.

Darth on a Hearth is a $29.99 holiday plush, and its two reported online release dates are November 4 and November 11, 2026. If you have been waiting for a way to buy it without a Disney park trip, those are the dates to watch.

According to ComicBook’s October 21 exclusive, Disney Store’s TikTok Shop gets the plush first on November 4. Its DisneyStore.com release follows on November 11.

What comes in the box

The plush comes in a display box illustrated with a fireplace. Vader wears his familiar black outfit with a Santa hat and a red cape trimmed in fuzzy white, and he holds a plastic candy cane. The helmet is molded plastic.

For the online launch, look for the full product name: Darth Vader Plush – Darth on a Hearth – A Sith-mas Tradition. ComicBook’s wider holiday-toy announcement also includes holiday droids and a gingerbread Spider-Bot arriving October 26, but that October date does not apply to this plush.

On the Holiday Hide Lola Original, $125 buys the 30-by-36-inch Baby size. The 50-by-60-inch Medium is $275. That is a fairly significant difference if the plan involves covering your own legs on the couch.

Checks, red, green and one very good animal print

The holiday collection includes Red Check, Green Check, Chocolate Check and Holiday Hide among its new Original prints. The new solid colors include Reykjavik Red, Nordic Pine, Firewood and Blue Lagoon.

Holiday Hide moves through white, taupe and dark brown. It gives you a seasonal blanket that can stay on the couch after the ornaments come down, without an obvious Christmas motif announcing that you forgot to put something away.

Lola also has weighted blankets and pillows in the holiday shop. Those are separate products; the size and price table above is for the Holiday Hide Original.

Read the wash instructions before gifting it

Holiday Hide is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. Lola directs shoppers to wash it separately in cold water with liquid detergent, skip fabric softener and hang it to dry. A brief tumble on the air setting is suggested for fluffing.

The return window deserves a look, too: items must be unused, unwashed and in their original packaging, and you must both request and ship the return within 14 days of receipt.

Processing is listed as three to five business days, with shipping time added separately. If this is going under someone’s tree, check the delivery estimate and return terms before ordering it weeks ahead.

One Piece: Grand Gourmet is a new restaurant-management game from Kairosoft. You join the crew at Baratie Number Two, where collecting ingredients, cooking dishes, and decorating the dining room are all part of the job.

Bandai Namco announced the game’s U.S. launch on October 23, 2026. It is available on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PC through Steam, iOS, and Android.

Sanji cooks. You get to fuss over the restaurant.

You work with Sanji to create dishes, put together meal sets, and find more recipes. The announced menu includes Water-Water Meat BBQ and Sea King Penne Gorgonzola, so this restaurant is very much operating in the One Piece universe.

There is plenty to decorate, too. Bandai Namco lists more than 200 furniture, building, and decoration items, including Whole Cake Island and Egghead designs. Characters who like the place can become regulars.

More than 400 characters appear as staff and customers, all in pixel-art form. The official screenshots show a sprawling restaurant with wildly different little dining areas. Choosing one matching set of chairs does not appear to be the assignment.

How much does Grand Gourmet cost?

The U.S. iPhone and iPad listing is $12.99. Nintendo’s U.S. store lists the Switch 2 edition at $19.99. Those are the listed prices checked October 23.

The iPhone version requires iOS 13 or later, and the iPad version requires iPadOS 13 or later. For PC or Android, follow the store links from the official game page for that platform’s current price.

Is it multiplayer?

No. Bandai Namco identifies Grand Gourmet as a single-player game, and Nintendo lists one player on a single system. The hundreds of familiar faces are characters in your restaurant, not hundreds of other people joining your game.

Halloween History Detectives was scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon at the museum downtown. Admission was free, and advance online registration was requested. That date has passed; this is not a live registration invitation.

How the Halloween History Detectives hunt worked

Families were invited to start at the front desk with a History Detectives passport, explore the museum and collect six stamps, then bring the completed passport back to the desk for a prize.

The original event listing also advertised animals, artifacts and hands-on activities from Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, plus creepy-crawly crafts. Costumes were encouraged.

The advertised zoo activities took place at the museum, not at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo itself.

Registration for October 31 has ended

The original registration listing documents the free October 31 event, but should not be used to reserve a spot for a date that has passed. See upcoming museum programs and events for future dates.

Museum location and accessibility

The museum is at 215 S. Tejon Street in downtown Colorado Springs, inside the historic 1903 El Paso County Courthouse. The clock tower in the photo above belongs to that building; it is an archival museum photo.

For parking, the museum lists the garage at 130 S. Nevada Avenue and downtown meters.

Its visitor information notes a ramp entrance on the south side, with a doorbell for staff assistance, and elevator access to every floor.

The Raspberry Spread Plush Squeaker copies the look of the brand’s signature spread jar, right down to the raspberry-red body. The label says raspberry spread, but this one is a stuffed squeaky toy, not something to put on toast.

What you get for $20

According to As ever’s product listing, the toy measures 4.9 inches tall, 4 inches wide and 4 inches deep. The listed materials are canvas, fleece and cotton stuffing, with a squeaker inside.

Where to get the jam-jar squeaker

The toy was listed at $20 with an add-to-basket option when we checked on October 22. As ever labels it limited edition, but the listing doesn’t give a quantity or an end date.

The brand ships to all 50 U.S. states and offers ground and expedited shipping. Free ground shipping applies only to orders over $50, so one $20 toy does not qualify. The product page doesn’t give a flat shipping price for a smaller order; check the total before paying.

The product page also says returns aren’t accepted.

The Sea Star Search with The Elf on the Shelf runs November 20, 2026, through January 3, 2027, at SEA LIFE Aquarium at LEGOLAND California Resort. It is included with SEA LIFE admission, so there is no separate event ticket to add.

There is one ticket detail worth catching before you book: a LEGOLAND ticket does not automatically mean aquarium admission. Here is how the holiday activity works and which admission to look for.

What kids do on the Sea Star Search

According to LEGOLAND California’s October 22 announcement, the decorations on the Undersea Christmas Tree have gone missing, including the Christmas Sea Star from the top. Santa’s Scout Elves need visitors to help put everything back.

Families start with an activity sheet, then follow interactive challenge points through the aquarium. Completing the tasks helps recover the decorations and collect pieces of the missing sea star.

Along the way, participants assemble their own Christmas Sea Star ornament to take home. Children who finish the trail also receive an Elf on the Shelf Christmas Star Certificate. A holiday outing with something for the tree afterward is a nice little bonus.

The resort lists the activity as suitable for all ages.

Which ticket includes the Elf on the Shelf trail?

The activity is included with all SEA LIFE admission tickets. On its official aquarium page, the resort says you can buy a SEA LIFE-only ticket without visiting the LEGOLAND theme park.

If you want both attractions, SEA LIFE admission is included with select LEGOLAND California hopper tickets and annual passes. Check the exact inclusions on your ticket rather than assuming every LEGOLAND admission covers the aquarium.

That makes the aquarium-only option worth looking at if the Elf trail is your main reason for going. You do not have to turn it into a full theme-park day.

I have still been getting out a bit. I really want to keep going. Which has led me to a very practical beginner question: what do you actually wear on a paddleboard when it gets cold?

My first thought was about staying dry. The more useful question turns out to be what happens if I fall in.

Guidance from the National Weather Service, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, NRS, and the National Center for Cold Water Safety gives me a place to start before choosing a cold-weather setup.

What should you wear paddleboarding in cold weather?

Start with protection suited to the water temperature and an unexpected fall into the lake. Depending on the conditions, that can mean an appropriately fitted wetsuit or a properly functioning drysuit with enough insulation underneath. Wear your life jacket, too.

The National Center for Cold Water Safety emphasizes that the suit has to provide enough protection for you to remain functional in the water. Owning something labeled “wetsuit” or “drysuit” does not settle that question.

A pleasant afternoon forecast is not a clothing recommendation for the lake.

The air can feel fine while the water is a problem

The National Weather Service explains that sudden cold-water immersion can trigger involuntary gasping and rapid breathing. That can create a drowning emergency even for a strong swimmer. Cold shock can be severe in water between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit; the lake does not have to be close to freezing.

That changes the question from “Will I be chilly standing here?” to “Am I prepared to end up in this water?”

Colorado Parks and Wildlife says Colorado waters fall into its cold-water category for much of the year. The agency advises dressing for water temperature, bringing spare clothes, sharing a float plan, and making sure everyone wears a life jacket.

Splash gear, wetsuits, and drysuits do different jobs

NRS’s cold-water clothing guide explains the differences:

For a beginner, that distinction matters before buying anything. A garment that handles paddle splashes might be doing exactly what it was designed to do and still be the wrong protection for a fall.

The National Center for Cold Water Safety also stresses snug, sufficiently thick wetsuits and leak-free drysuits with adequate warm clothing underneath. Get help matching the complete system to your conditions.

A drysuit still needs the right layers

In NRS’s winter touring guide, paddling coach James Stevenson explains why the clothes under a drysuit matter. The shell alone provides little insulation.

He discusses moisture-wicking synthetic or merino base layers, with fleece as an insulating layer. Cotton is a poor choice because it holds moisture and dries slowly. The amount of insulation needs to fit the conditions.

Hands and feet deserve attention, too. Stevenson discusses neoprene gloves and footwear, while emphasizing fit and usable hand movement. Warm hands are useful only if you can still work your equipment.

That is the kind of detail I want explained when someone recommends gear: what goes underneath it, what works with it, and what I need to be able to do while wearing it.

Learn to use the setup before relying on it

The National Center for Cold Water Safety’s field-testing guidance asks practical questions: does your equipment work, can you operate it, and does it interfere with rescue?

For a beginner, a qualified paddling instructor can help turn those questions into supervised practice. I would want help checking fit, movement, and getting back onto the board in the complete outfit. This is not an invitation to jump into a cold lake alone to see what happens.

A new suit is equipment to learn, and it does not provide a guarantee that a particular outing is safe.

The outing needs a plan, too

Before choosing a day, check the forecast, water conditions, and the lake’s current access rules. Bring a paddling companion who can help, have a way to call for assistance, and tell someone on shore where you are going and when you expect to return.

NRS recommends paddling with others and practicing with equipment in safe conditions with help present. CPW also warns that wind can separate a paddler from their craft and make getting to safety harder.

If the conditions, equipment, or skills do not line up, staying on shore is a perfectly useful decision.

My Colorado paddleboarding guide has places to research and links to local rules. An outing that worked in summer does not establish that the same lake is appropriate today.

What I want to figure out next

I have asked NRS for recommendations for this next part of my beginner paddleboarding series. I want to understand which pieces make sense together, how they should fit, and what I need to learn before using them on cold water.

I still really want to paddleboard. My next step is figuring out the complete setup, including the layers underneath and the practice that goes with it.

• Merry Kitschmas: Pink trees, crochet and novelty ornaments. Start here if you want color and playful details.
• Bough & Berry: Red, white, greenery and plaid. This is the easiest match for a traditional Christmas box.

Michaels says pieces across the holiday assortment start at $4.99. That’s an assortment starting price, not a quoted price for a pink Christmas tree. The announcement doesn’t give individual tree prices or sizes, so check the specific listing before planning around one.

My first move would be to pull out the decorations I already own and pick one spot that needs something fun. A shelf. The entry table. That awkward corner that somehow becomes a storage area every December. Then shop for that spot before accidentally buying enough ornaments for a second tree.

What’s inside the blind boxes?

The lineup is Artsy Peacock, Zen Deer, Lava Fox, Solar Tanuki and Shu-Shu Monkey. The tiny hooded outfits give each one a different color to go with its animal head.

The U.S. listing says there is no Secret or Robby Angel in this series. Each blind box contains a randomly selected figure, so you cannot choose your favorite.

Prices and blind-box details

A single blind box is $16.50; a six-piece assortment is $99. That is the same price per figure, and the assortment does not guarantee all five designs.

The store limits purchases to one six-piece assortment OR up to five individual blind boxes per customer/account. Canceled orders count toward that limit, too.

For U.S. shoppers, the published shipping policy adds $6 to orders below $55 and provides free shipping above $55. One figure therefore comes to $22.50 before tax; the $99 assortment qualifies for free shipping.
