Netflix’s True Crime Series ‘The Innocence Files’ Shows Just How Devastating Wrongful Convictions Are
Netflix has a new True Crime series, and I know what I’m going to be doing tonight!
This docuseries, called The Innocence Files, follows eight men who were wrongly charged with heinous crimes, and have subsequently spent years wrongfully locked up in prison.
The series follows the stories of these men, their trials, and even looks at their families, who were left shattered and devastated by the convictions.
One man, whom the docuseries focuses on, is Levon Brooks. He was accused of the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl, and has spent more than 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.
Side Note: Meanwhile, the true perpetrator of the crime was walking the streets, a free man — only to commit a very similar rape and murder of another three year old.
This same type of story happens again and again, and because of this, the Innocence Project was born.
The Innocence Project is a non-profit organization whose mission it is to seek justice for those who were wrongly accused and convicted of crimes. Their whole purpose is to fight for the freedom of those that were wrongly imprisoned.
The cases taken on by the Innocence Project are the focus of this Netflix docuseries. And, you can BET it is going to be a show you are going to want to binge watch!
Just watching the trailer for the show was enough to have me grabbing for the box of tissues.
When one of the former prisoners talks about how the first thing he did when he got out of prison was take off his shoes and run in the grass — he hadn’t touched grass in 12 years — I was done for.
I will definitely be watching The Innocence Files!
