Target’s Halloween snack aisle has reached the “wait, they made what?” stage. Its Favorite Day line now has a gummy worm flavored whipped dairy topping, and I already have several questions about the first person who decided dessert needed this.
It is a 13-ounce can of whipped topping made with real cream. Target describes the flavor as having candy notes and suggests using it on cakes, lattes or hot chocolate. The name makes it sound like there might be actual gummy worms in the can, but the ingredient list on Target’s product page does not list gummy worms. It’s flavored whipped cream, not a can that dispenses candy.
What would you put gummy worm whipped cream on?
If you want Halloween dessert with almost no prep, try it as a finishing touch on a bowl of vanilla ice cream with gummy worms you add yourself, or on a mug of hot chocolate with a few candy “worms” draped over the rim. These are serving ideas, not recipes I’ve tested. A spoonful on a cupcake could be fun too, but I would add it right before serving.

Target’s Halloween assortment announcement also names ghost-shaped cake pops, sour gummy wands and Fright Bites tortilla chips. The whipped topping wins the category of “I need to see someone put this on a latte,” though. Would you try it, or is this where Halloween snack season has gone too far?
