The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) is demanding that Johnny Depp reimburse them $86,000, um… say what?

Johnny Depp just won his defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard and I don’t think many had any questions about what the outcome would be.

Now the ACLU says 3 of its members were forced to testify because Johnny Depp filed to force the ACLU to turn over records about Amber Heard’s donations, or lack of fulfilling promised donations, to the ACLU.

Amber Heard had committed to donating $7 million, which she received as a divorce settlement from Johnny Depp, to charity.

$3.5 million dollars was pledged to go to the American Civil Liberties Union, she also pledged to donate the remaining $3.5 million to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

Amber Heard only paid the ACLU 1.3 million of the $3.5 million she had promised to donate.

So why is the ACLU asking for $86,000 from Johnny?

considerable expense spent responding to onerous subpoenas served by Mr. Depp from an underlying action in which neither the ACLU nor any of its employees are parties.

The ACLU filing reads

Well, according to them it cost them a lot of money to comply with the subpoena and he needs to reimburse them…

the ACLU produced three witnesses—including its Executive Director—for over sixteen hours of depositions. Along the way, Mr. Depp rejected numerous compromises to minimize the burden and expense on the ACLU and its employees.

The ACLU filing reads

Apparently, they had to review 7,500 documents and turned over 2,000 documents to comply with the subpoena and they think they should be paid for their time.
