I asked FUN.com to surprise me with the most ridiculous thing in their Halloween lineup. They picked a costume. I still don’t know what it is.
This feels like a very specific consequence of sending an email that basically said: please put me in something unhinged.
I gave the costume people entirely too much freedom
On October 3, I sent their team a request for something that could become the centerpiece of a Totally The Bomb Halloween shoot. A costume, an animatronic, some outrageous decor. Whatever they thought deserved the attention.
The important part was that I wasn’t picking it. I wanted their choice.
Which sounds fun until the people who actually work with Halloween costumes come back with a very immediate idea.
The only clue is that it’s a men’s costume
Allison from FUN.com replied on October 12. She had one of their new costumes in mind, but wanted to know whether a men’s costume would work.
I said yes. Obviously. I asked for ridiculous, and I am not about to get precious about which side of the costume aisle the ridiculousness comes from.
She confirmed that she placed the order and expects it to arrive by October 15, 2026. That’s the expected delivery date, not a costume reveal.
So that is where we are: someone at a Halloween company has selected an absolutely ridiculous men’s costume for me, and I have voluntarily agreed to find out what it is when it gets here.
You’re going to find out with me
As of October 13, I haven’t opened it, tried it on, or seen the costume. There is no secret product reveal hiding at the bottom of this post. I genuinely don’t know.
I want to photograph whatever arrives. Whether this turns out to be a brilliant idea or a deeply questionable one is still very much pending.
Disclosure: FUN.com is providing the costume as a complimentary editorial sample. This is not a paid partnership, and I did not promise positive coverage.
For now, I have handed my Halloween dignity to the people with the costume warehouse. We will see what they do with it.
