Yes, Snoop Dogg is officially the host of the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, and honestly, after Madonna opened the show by turning the stage into a deeply weird downtown-New-York bathroom situation, this suddenly feels extremely correct.
This is Snoop Dogg’s first time hosting the VMAs
CBS and MTV announced earlier this month that Snoop would host the 2026 VMAs live from Los Angeles as the show returned to the West Coast for the first time since 2017.
He is not exactly new to the VMAs, though. Snoop is a 13-time VMA nominee with three wins, and he has been part of some very specific VMA history over the years.
His past VMA moments include performing with Eminem in 2022, taking part in a tribute to The Notorious B.I.G. in 2005, and closing out the show with Dr. Dre and Eminem back in 1999.
Honestly, Snoop is kind of the perfect host for this particular show
The VMAs have never been the awards show you watch because you want everything to behave itself.
You watch because somebody might wear something completely unexplainable, two pop stars might suddenly appear together, a performance might happen in a bathroom, and Snoop Dogg might stroll back out afterward like all of this is completely normal.
That is basically tonight already.
Snoop is also serving as an executive producer on the 2026 show, which makes the whole thing feel even more like his night rather than somebody simply handing him a microphone between awards.

The 2026 MTV VMAs are airing live Sunday, September 27 from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The show runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. ET on CBS, simulcasts on MTV, and streams live for Paramount+ Premium subscribers in the United States.
And if the opening stretch is any indication, handing Snoop Dogg the keys to “music’s most unpredictable night” may have been one of the more accurate job assignments anyone has made this year.
