These might be the only spiders worth inviting into the kitchen. They have little dough legs, tiny eyes, and a mozzarella middle.

Hannah Denison, who posts as @hannahmarieden, shared the Spider Mozzarella Sticks idea. You can also watch her original Facebook video. The part that makes them look like spiders is a few cuts with kitchen scissors.

What you need

  • Pizza dough or prepared rise-and-bake dough, following its package directions
  • Mozzarella string cheese, cut to fit the dough
  • A little extra dough for the eyes
  • Marinara or another dipping sauce, if you like

Wrap the cheese first

Cut the dough into squares and place a piece of cheese in the middle. Roll the dough around it, leaving enough dough at each end for the legs. Close the dough around the cheese so you have a small wrapped stick to work with.

Three cuts make four legs

Make three cuts at each end of the dough stick. That gives you four little legs on each side, eight altogether. Keep the cuts in the dough at the ends rather than cutting through the cheese-filled center.

Spread the legs apart, then roll tiny pieces of the reserved dough into eyes and press them onto the spider. The eyes are what take these from a snipped-up cheese stick to a very small Halloween character.

Cook them according to your dough

Bake according to the directions for the dough you are using and check that the center is fully cooked. If you use an air fryer instead, use a tested method for that dough rather than guessing at a temperature or cook time.

Serve them with marinara or another dipping sauce on the side and let the cheese cool enough to eat before serving.
