Starbucks May Be Closing Its Bathrooms To The Public. Now Where Do I Stop To Use The Restroom?
Ah, Starbucks. We love their Secret Menu Drinks.
We love their Super Awesome Tumblers. They are also the best place to take that bathroom break when on a road trip.
Prove me wrong. I’ll fight you. *Smile Emoji*
Starbucks is just so convenient.
You can stop, get yourself some liquid fuel to keep you awake on the road, and hit up their clean bathrooms while the barista works their magic.
But, Starbucks is about to throw a huge wrench in my road trip routine.
Starbucks Might Be Closing Their Bathrooms To The Public
I’m sorry, what? Starbucks is going to close their restrooms to the public?!?
This definitely doesn’t bode well for that quick trip to the beach or the mountains that you were planning.
Howard Schultz, who recently returned to Starbucks as interim CEO, said that the stores are having to contend with the threat of a “growing mental health problem.”
This concern is making it nearly impossible for the employees to juggle doing their jobs and keeping up with the safety of the store and the public.
To be honest, I’m not 100% sure what they mean by this “mental health problem,” but I have a little story that might be related.
My husband works for Starbucks — he has for 22 years. When he was at work last week, they had a homeless man come and barricade himself in the restroom.
Now, they weren’t sure exactly what he was doing in there for so long. They had the theory that maybe he was hoping they wouldn’t notice, so he could spend the night in a safe sheltered store.
There was the concern that they may have to call the police to help get him out.
Now, this man finally ended up leaving on his own, but my husband said this kind of thing is happening more and more frequently.
It really sucks that Starbucks may have to take such drastic measures like closing their restrooms to the public. BUT, if it keeps the employees and the customers safe, I guess it’s a good thing.
Now, it is important to note that, according to Howard Schultz, these bathroom restrictions would “no longer allow people who were not customers to use their stores’ bathrooms.”
So, I guess if you break down and buy something, you get to use the restroom.
I guess I’m fine with that.
Thank you, Starbucks, for taking the steps to keep your employees and the public safe.
