Target has a new hair-care display that looks like someone bottled a very fancy honey jar. Japanese beauty brand &honey is now in Target Beauty Studio with six full-size products and two $8 trial kits.

The gold bottles are extremely good at making shampoo look expensive. More importantly, the trial kits mean you do not have to spend $46 on shampoo and treatment just to find out whether one of the routines belongs in your shower.

There are two &honey routines at Target

The current &honey selection at Target is split between Deep Moist and Melty Moist Repair. Each routine has a shampoo, treatment, and hair oil.

  • Deep Moist Shampoo: $23
  • Deep Moist Treatment: $23
  • Deep Moist Hair Oil: $23
  • Melty Moist Repair Shampoo: $23
  • Melty Moist Repair Treatment: $23
  • Melty Moist Repair Oil: $23

Target describes the Deep Moist trial as suitable for dry, frizzy, wavy, curly, and normal hair. The brand positions Melty Moist Repair around smoothing and moisture care, so that is the side I would compare if frizz is the reason I stopped in the aisle.

The $8 trial kits are the smartest place to start

Both routines also come in a two-step, five-day trial with shampoo and treatment for $8. The Deep Moist trial kit uses Peony Honey scent for the shampoo and Lavender Honey for the treatment, according to Target’s listing.

A full shampoo-and-treatment pair costs $46 before tax. Starting with the matching $8 kit leaves $38 in your pocket while you decide how you feel about the fragrance and routine. That is the useful news here, even if the full-size bottles are the part begging to be photographed.

What I would add to the cart

I would choose one trial kit first, then go back for the matching $23 oil only if I wanted a third step. The bottles label shampoo as step 1.0, treatment as step 2.0, and oil as step 3.0, which makes the order blessedly obvious.
