Hot honey has already made itself very comfortable on pizza. Now it’s getting into the wine.

Cavit and Mike’s Hot Honey have teamed up for Pizza & Pinots, a National Pizza Month collaboration built around wine, pizza pairings and cocktails with a little heat. One of the recipes is the Golden Stinger: Pinot Grigio, pineapple juice, orange juice, lime and Mike’s Hot Honey Extra Hot, served in a glass with a Tajín rim.

Yes, the Pinot Grigio is going in the shaker.

Cavit and Mike’s Hot Honey provided a sample mailer for this story.

What’s in the Golden Stinger?

The recipe comes from the brands’ Pizza & Pinots materials. For one cocktail, you’ll need:

  • 3 ounces Cavit Pinot Grigio
  • 1 ounce pineapple juice
  • 1 ounce orange juice
  • ½ ounce lime juice
  • ½ ounce Mike’s Hot Honey Extra Hot
  • Tajín for the rim
  • Lime for the garnish

Rim a rocks glass with Tajín. Shake the wine, juices and hot honey with ice, then strain into the glass over fresh ice and add the lime garnish.

Cavit pairs this one with Hawaiian pizza on its Pizza & Pinots page. If pineapple-on-pizza is already a settled argument in your house, at least you know which side this drink is on.

There are six cocktails on the pizza-night menu

The Golden Stinger is one of six recipes on Cavit’s campaign page. There’s also a White Hot Summer with Pinot Grigio, limeade, mint and original hot honey, paired with four-cheese pizza.

For red-wine drinkers, the Berry Hottie mixes Pinot Noir with mixed-berry juice and Extra Hot honey. Cavit suggests veggie supreme for that one. The Sangrita Spritz combines Pinot Noir, orange juice, original hot honey and lemon-lime soda, with a classic Margherita pairing.

The other two are the Paloma Blanc, made with Sauvignon Blanc and grapefruit juice, and the Spicy Melon Spritz, made with Merlot and watermelon juice. The brand pairs those with pepperoni and BBQ chicken pizza, respectively.

You can find the full recipes on Cavit’s Pizza & Pinots page. These are the brands’ recipes and pairing suggestions, so choose the pizza you actually want to eat. Your takeout order does not need a committee.
