This ‘Deep Fake’ Tom Cruise Has Me Questioning Everything

You guys, yes… I am one of those people that are known to dive down some deep rabbit holes. Doesn’t matter what it is, I will look into everything.

I once watched a Ted Talk where a man talked about a technology he helped create and how it could be abused.

The technology was CGI and holograms and it was mind-blowing.

The Ted Talk was by Supasorn Suwajanakorn and he was explaining how you can spot a deep fake. A Deep Fake is a fake video of a real person, knowing the technology existed made my head spin.

Then last night, there I was laying in my bed scrolling TikTok. I came across what appeared to be Tom Cruise on my FYP.

But, it was odd and creepy and it wasn’t Tom Cruise. It is a Deep Fake Tom Cruise and it blew my mind to see that technology right there in my face on TikTok.

When you watch the videos, it appears to be Tom Cruise… only it’s not. The details are there, only he looks younger.

Even his front tooth lines up with the tip of his nose. The laugh haunted my dreams through the night.

There are ways to spot a Deep Fake, but not on the first watch. You have to watch and rewatch.

In fact, one way you can tell on one of these specific videos is on the one where he is golfing. There is a moment where he pulls his sunglasses up and a portion momentarily disappears.
