Ariel has found a new use for her dinglehopper: putting the name on a cruise ship.

Disney’s first Japan-based cruise ship is officially called Disney Imagination, and the stern artwork puts Ariel and Sebastian right on the back. A mermaid with a fork feels like a much better ship-naming committee than a conference room full of executives.

There is one fairly important detail before anyone starts mentally packing: the ship is scheduled to sail from Tokyo in spring 2029.

Ariel gets the outside decorating job

The newly released concept art shows Ariel holding her dinglehopper against the ship’s name, with Sebastian nearby. Disney says she will use it to draw the name as part of the ship’s signature stern design.

It is a tiny bit of The Little Mermaid storytelling built into the ship itself. And yes, the fork is doing actual work this time.

This is a Tokyo departure, with a different operator

According to Disney’s announcement, Imagination will be the first ship for Disney Cruise Line Japan, a Disney-branded cruise business operated by Oriental Land Co., Ltd. That is the company behind Tokyo Disney Resort under license from Disney.

Disney also identifies Imagination as a Wish-class ship. The Disney Parks Blog preview lists Broadway-style entertainment, character encounters, food and beverage experiences, spaces for kids through teens, and areas reserved for adults.

What can you actually plan yet?

For now, the useful anchors are the name, Tokyo departure point, spring 2029 timing, and the Ariel stern design. Disney says specific onboard experiences and future itineraries will come later.

Neither announcement gives fares or a booking date, so this belongs on the future-trip list rather than a checkout screen. There is plenty of time to decide whether a Tokyo trip needs a sea-going Little Mermaid detour.

Ariel has the decorating covered. The rest of the itinerary still needs to show up.
