The air gets drier, the heat tools come back out, and suddenly your hair is acting like it did not approve the seasonal transition.

Celebrity stylist and Nick Stenson Beauty founder Nick Stenson shared a few fall hair-care swaps aimed at keeping hair hydrated and easier to manage as summer ends. The useful part is that the advice is pretty simple: add moisture, be smarter about heat, clean up buildup, and stop yanking your hair into overly tight styles.

Start with more moisture

Stenson recommends swapping lighter summer formulas for richer, more nourishing products when cooler, drier weather moves in. His brand’s Moisture Shampoo and Moisture Conditioner come in 12-ounce sizes. Check the product pages for current prices.

The product pages describe both as designed for normal-to-dry, color-treated and highlighted hair, with the conditioner also positioned for detangling.

Do not skip heat protection

If fall means more blowouts, straighteners or curling irons for you, Stenson recommends using heat protection before styling. That is not a glamorous tip, but it is the kind of boring thing that matters when you suddenly start using hot tools several times a week again.

Your scalp may need a reset too

Summer can leave behind sweat, styling product and general buildup. Stenson suggests adding a clarifying step when needed so you are not stacking fall products on top of months of residue.

And maybe loosen that ponytail

Polished ponytails and sleek fall styles are back every year, but Stenson also warns about tension and breakage when hair is pulled back too tightly.

The ponytail can be polished without pulling your eyebrows toward the ceiling. Start there.
