Tiny football pretzels are a very good reason to pay attention to the snack aisle.

Chex Mix Gameday has them, along with brown sugar barbecue flavoring. General Mills is also rolling out Gardetto’s Honey Mustard and bringing back Pillsbury’s football cutout sugar cookies. Two new savory options, one returning sweet one, and considerably less work than carving a stadium out of cheese.

The new Gameday mix pairs brown sugar barbecue seasoning with those little football pretzels. It is an easy pour-into-a-bowl option for anyone whose contribution to the watch party needs to happen between the store and the couch.

Look for the bag marked Gameday Brown Sugar Barbecue. General Mills lists this seasonal flavor at convenience stores nationwide, and its October announcement says the limited run goes through January. That is a release window, rather than a promise that every nearby store has a bag waiting.

Gardetto’s is going sweet and tangy

The other new mix is Gardetto’s Honey Mustard. According to General Mills, it combines the brand’s rye chips and breadsticks with pretzel twists and flats, all with a honey-mustard flavor.

So if the snack bowl usually turns into an excavation site for the rye chips, there is a new flavor to look for. Check stores near you for current price and availability before making a special trip.

Pillsbury’s football cookies are back

The Ready to Bake Football Cut-Out Sugar Cookie Dough is the returning member of this lineup. The football shapes are already cut, with the little lace design built in. You supply the baking sheet and oven; the decorating is handled.

For a more elaborate-looking dessert, Pillsbury also has a double-stack cookie method: a football sugar cookie sits on top of a chocolate chip cookie base.

The useful detail is the timing. Pillsbury partially bakes the chocolate chip bases before adding the football toppers, then finishes baking both layers together. Follow the brand’s full method for the dough sizes, temperature and baking times, rather than stacking two raw cookies and guessing.

Which one belongs on your snack table?

Chex Mix and Gardetto’s are the open-the-bag choices. Pillsbury is the bake-a-tray choice, with the double-stack version there if you want the cookies to show off a little.

You can see the football Chex Mix and Pillsbury cookies in General Mills’ game-day lineup. Check local availability before planning around a specific product, especially the limited-run Chex flavor.

And if you would rather make your own mix, our Halloween Harvest Hash Chex Mix takes the snack bowl in a different fall direction.

The football cookies can be in charge of team spirit. The rest of us can be in charge of eating them.
