Someone looked at the Coney Island Cyclone and decided it needed a gingerbread version. That someone is Angela Carlucci, and her edible roller coaster won Best Overall at the Museum of the City of New York’s Gingerbread NYC: The Great Borough Bake-Off.
The exhibition opened November 6, 2026, and runs through January 18, 2027. You can see the Cyclone at the museum at 1220 Fifth Avenue at 103rd Street in Manhattan. Yes, this particular trip to Coney Island takes you to Fifth Avenue.

The Cyclone picked up more than one prize
According to the museum’s November 4 announcement, Carlucci also won Good Enough to Eat and Best Borough Spirit for Brooklyn. Her Cyclone shared Most Unique with the Little Island entry and Most Realistic with Ariemma’s Italian Deli.
This year’s theme is “Iconic New York,” with professional and amateur bakers taking on the city’s landmarks and neighborhood favorites. Other entries include Grand Central Terminal, the Empire State Building and takeout from Flushing’s Chinatown. That is a very New York range of inspiration.

Visitors get a separate vote
Best Overall is the judges’ award. Visitors can vote during the exhibition for a separate People’s Choice winner, so there is still a reason to size up the competition when you go.
Check the ticket options before booking
You can book through the official Gingerbread NYC ticket page. Admission includes all exhibitions.
Listed admission is $23 for adults, $18 for seniors 65 and older, and $14 for students 19 and older. Visitors 18 and under and museum members are listed as free. Bring ID for senior or student admission.
New York City residents with ID can use pay-what-you-can admission at the ticket counter. Free Wednesday tickets are also counter-only. Booking online means paying the listed admission price; those two options are not online discounts. Groups of 10 or more have separate reservation and rate rules, and the resident, senior, student, youth and Wednesday offers do not apply to them.
The museum is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Check the museum’s current visit notices and hours before heading over.
