A giant spider in the yard is already a fairly clear statement. A giant spider that starts coming closer? That is a different level of commitment.
Home Depot’s Wicked Woods Animated LED Creeping Spider is a roughly six-foot-wide Halloween decoration with a rolling track underneath it. The spider moves forward and backward while its legs make a crawling motion. It is listed at $249.
That track is the detail to understand before mentally releasing one into the neighborhood. Its movement follows the base; this is a fixed display with a moving creature.
There is a lot happening on this spider
The black legs frame a purple, green and yellow body, with glowing eyes and illuminated details. Home Depot says a motion sensor triggers three spooky sounds, and the decoration is rated for indoor and outdoor use.
The retailer lists the assembled size as 70 inches wide, 68 inches deep and 36 inches high. Measure the space you actually have, including the route people will use to reach the door. “It looked smaller on my phone” gets much less charming when the thing has eight legs.
It uses an included plug-in adapter and comes with ground stakes for anchoring the track. Home Depot estimates a one-person setup of about 30 minutes. That is the retailer’s estimate, so leave yourself some breathing room before guests arrive.
Read the reviews before spending $249
The design is wonderfully ridiculous, but the customer feedback deserves a look. At the time of writing, the listing averaged 3.4 out of 5 across 75 reviews.
Read the current owner feedback before ordering. Once it arrives, inspect the parts and try the movement promptly instead of leaving the box unopened until Halloween.
