IKEA and Xbox have made the part of the controller you move with your thumb big enough to sit on. The YXSTABY gaming thumb stick stool costs $49.99 in the U.S., and the joke goes beyond its shape: it moves with you, too.
There is one shopping detail worth knowing before you plan a gaming-room makeover. IKEA lists an October 1, 2026, store launch and a November 30, 2026, online launch. Those are two different dates, so check your local store’s availability before making the trip.
Yes, the giant thumbstick tilts
The stool has the familiar wide, textured top, narrow middle and rounded base. IKEA says the diamond pattern on the seat echoes the grip on a controller’s thumbstick.
That resemblance is more than a designer squinting at a controller. According to IKEA’s announcement, the stool was developed from Xbox’s original 3D design files with its device designers. IKEA designer David Wahl says it tilts along with the person sitting on it.
A tiny controller part becoming full-size furniture is a pretty good living-room conversation starter. Especially when someone realizes the wobble is intentional.
Check the fit before the impulse buy
The black stool’s U.S. listing gives these measurements:
- Height: 17⅜ inches
- Diameter: 14¾ inches
- Maximum load: 243 pounds
IKEA also specifically says to keep your feet on the floor to maintain balance while using it. That matters more than the cute controller resemblance: make sure the height works for you, rather than buying it just because it would look funny next to the console.
With no backrest or armrests, this is a very different seat from a full gaming chair. Think about where you would actually use it and whether a moving stool is what you want before clearing a spot at your desk.
Where to find it
The stool is part of IKEA and Xbox’s YXSTABY collection, which also turns the controller’s directional pad into a cushion and a stainless-steel platter. The oversized thumbstick is the piece that commits hardest to the bit.
For the $49.99 black stool, use IKEA’s U.S. product page to check the listing and your store. If you’re shopping online, November 30 is the date IKEA currently lists.
