I Told Mountain Chalet I Wasn’t Buying Anything. Jim Helped Me Anyway.

I walked into Mountain Chalet in downtown Colorado Springs and basically announced, “Yeah, so I’m not buying anything right now, but, um…”

And Jim proceeded to be the most helpful person on the planet.

He had me try on different helmets and goggles. He spent all that time with me after I had already told him I wasn’t buying anything that day.

He did not have to do that. And I need everybody to know how much I appreciated it.

They’ve helped me before

They’re always super helpful. They’re the reason I have adorable snow boots, and they even taught me how to put inserts in them.

They also secretly just have the cutest damn clothes ever.

It’s basically like whoever is their buyer understands all I want in life is to be cute and comfortable.

The helmet made this feel real

The SMITH Liberty helmet was so freaking comfortable. The Squad S goggles felt great, too. I could absolutely see myself wearing that setup.

Jim helped me figure out what to ask SMITH for: the Liberty in Medium and Squad S goggles with Everyday Blue lenses and a rose base. Those are the details I’ve sent over. The final gear selection is still being worked out.

For now, this was me trying things on in a store. I haven’t tested any of it on the mountain.

And Monarch is giving me five days to get out there

Here’s the part that has me going, oh my god, this is real now: Monarch Mountain has offered me five complimentary single-day lift tickets, five complimentary rental days, and two complimentary adult group lesson days.

That is incredibly generous. I keep saying I want to learn to snowboard, and now there are actual people helping me make it happen.

I haven’t booked my mountain dates yet. I am excited. I’m also looking at the whole situation like, okay, now I really have to do this.

A huge thank-you to SMITH for offering to gift me a helmet and goggles, and to Seirus for offering snowboarding mitts. I’m still getting the sizes and details sorted out, and I’m so grateful for the help.

Otherwise, knowing me, I’d be looking at a child’s bicycle helmet like, “Is this close enough?” Which it absolutely is not.

But this thank-you belongs to Jim and Mountain Chalet

The gear and the mountain days are exciting. The reason I wanted to write this post is that Jim took the time to help me when I walked in and told him I wasn’t buying anything.

If you’re in Colorado Springs, Mountain Chalet is at 15 North Nevada Avenue, downtown. That’s the shop I’m talking about, and these are the people I’m thanking.

Jim, thank you for being ridiculously helpful. Mountain Chalet, thank you for the time you spent helping me figure out what I need.

I’ve tried on the helmet. Holy shit. I guess I’m really doing this.
