I didn’t even know Nalgene existed until I spent a summer working as a camp counselor in the mountains of New Mexico. Everyone was carrying their bottles, and honestly, they’ve had my heart ever since.

I’m sorry, Stanley and Hydro Flask.

Nalgene has added Mothman, the Loch Ness Monster and a Jackalope to its Mythical Creatures collection. The new 32-ounce, wide-mouth bottles are listed at $18.99 each, and every one comes with a matching cryptid sticker sheet. Apparently, one tiny monster is not enough.

Three very different kinds of spooky

Mothman gets the most dramatic treatment: a gray bottle with a red cap, red eyes and bright green forest artwork. It is a wonderfully specific choice for the person whose idea of light reading involves a mysterious creature in the woods.

Nessie is on a blue bottle with a pale blue cap, swimming beneath a little castle scene. The Jackalope version pairs a green bottle with a yellow cap and an antlered rabbit leaping through a desert landscape. All three use the same bottle size, so you can choose by your preferred creature without comparing three different capacities.

What you get for $18.99

The official product listing includes the bottle and its companion sticker sheet. Look for the options labeled Smoke Grey with Red Mothman, Denim with Seaside Nessie, and Woodsman with Yellow Jackalope.

Nalgene lists the bottles’ country of origin as the USA. These are wide-mouth screw-cap bottles, so anyone shopping specifically for a straw lid should check that detail before ordering.

The appeal here is how easy it is to match one to a person. Mothman for the friend who sends you cryptid videos. Nessie for the person who has somehow made a lake monster look cute in every room. Jackalope for the desert-loving friend who would absolutely keep a rabbit with antlers if that were an option.

Check shipping before calling it an under-$20 gift

The bottle’s listed price is under $20, but that is not necessarily your checkout total. When checked October 14, Nalgene’s site advertised free shipping on orders over $20 in the contiguous United States, excluding custom orders. One $18.99 bottle falls below that threshold.

Check the selected design and final shipping charge on Nalgene’s product page. And if your gift recipient prefers their little monster in the kitchen, our unusual Christmas gift picks include a Nessie ladle with an entirely different job.
