Your dog has watched enough candy disappear into everyone else’s Halloween bucket. PetSmart has a trick-or-treat stop where the treats are meant for pets.

The retailer’s October 1 announcement lays out two free trick-or-treat days, plus a separate afternoon for meeting snakes, spiders and other specialty pets. PetSmart says all stores are participating.

Put these three dates on your calendar

  • Saturday, October 17, 2026, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.: Tricks for Treats
  • Sunday, October 18, 2026, noon–2 p.m.: Meet the Spooky Pets
  • Sunday, October 25, 2026, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.: Another Tricks for Treats event

For the treat-station outing, choose October 17 or 25. If the appeal is learning about the creepy-crawly residents, October 18 is the one to save. Those are different events with different hours, so check with your store before making the trip.

The costume is optional. The photo opportunity is very tempting.

Tricks for Treats includes pet-treat stations, coloring pages and stickers for families, and a Halloween photo area with props. The announcement also promises a themed PetSmart tote for the first 50 attendees. Freebies are first-come, first-served and available while supplies last.

Pets do not have to wear costumes. If your dog’s entire Halloween look is “dog who would like a snack,” that works.

For pets who enjoy dressing up, PetSmart’s Halloween guide recommends trying the costume ahead of time and supervising while they wear it. That gives you a chance to find out whether the little pumpkin outfit is actually welcome before you add a store visit.

October 18 is for the creature-curious

The new Meet the Spooky Pets event lets families learn about specialty animals and their everyday care from store associates. PetSmart mentions snakes, spiders and death-feigning beetles, but the animals featured will vary by store.

Have a particular animal in mind? Ask your local store what it expects to feature rather than promising the kids a specific encounter.

Check the pet-entry rules before bringing your own

The U.S. in-store pet policy requires permitted pets to be leashed or safely confined and vaccinated as appropriate for their species. Dogs and cats are included, along with several other pet categories; the policy does not admit every animal.

If you are bringing something less common than a dog or cat, check the policy and ask a store associate first. Canadian visitors can review the Canadian pet policy.

Save the right date, bring the leash or carrier, and leave the costume negotiations between you and your pet.
