Great, just what we need, another illness! 2020 I am about done, actually have been done. We need something good to happen and we need it soon. But until then, I need to let you all know that there is a salmonella outbreak right now.

This is a multistate outbreak of salmonella and nearly 400 people in 31 states have become sick from it. About 60 of those being hospitalized.

The outbreak has been traced to red onions and a company called Thomson International, Inc. located in Bakersfield, California is assumed to be the source at this time according to the FDA.

Although the investigation has determined that red onions are the likely source of this outbreak, Thomson International, Inc. has notified FDA that it will be recalling all varieties of onions that could have come in contact with potentially contaminated red onions, due to the risk of cross-contamination.

FDA statement on Friday

Even though they are saying it is the red onions, the recall will be for red, white, yellow, and sweet onions from Thomson International. The FDA is still investigating to see if any other products are linked to the outbreak, which has also been identified in Canada.

If it is salmonella poisoning, please report your illness to the health department. Children under the age of 5 and adults over the age of 65, as well as people like me that have weakened immune systems, are more likely to get severely ill.
